The question is how much do you gain from a "nice seed bed" if your soil carbon and nutrient cycles are destroyed by tillage, and you've created a structure-less hard pan under structure-less powder. I encourage you to look at the field tests following diverse cover crops in no-till fields! Even in the prime soils like we have here in Iowa, you can get a yield difference out of healthier soil, especially in a drought cycle. http://ohioline.osu.edu/sag-fact/pdf/0011.pdf
