ABS to Become Exclusive U.S. Distributor of Geno Global Norwegian Red Genetics

November 11, 2010

DeForest, Wis. – ABS Global, a division of Genus plc, will become the exclusive distributor of Norwegian Red genetics in the U.S. beginning May 1, 2011.

The addition of the Norwegian Red breed to the ABS product line complements ABS’s breed-leading Holstein and Jersey offering and gives producers the opportunity to take advantage of rotational crossbreeding with Holstein, Jersey and Norwegian Red sires — all available from ABS. With the recommendation of three-breed rotational crossbreeding with Holstein, Jersey and Norwegian Red, ABS will distribute Norwegian Red semen under the new Crossbreeding Management System (CMS) program.

"Many dairy farmers have mated their Holstein cows to Jersey sires for reduced dystocia and improved reproduction. Through CMS, ABS offers an ideal mating for F1 crossbred Jersey x Holstein females," states Todd Kronberg, ABS global director of strategic marketing.

Gary Rogers, Geno global technical adviser, adds, "Geno is enthused to have ABS as our exclusive distributor beginning May 1 throughout the U.S. The Norwegian Red breed continues to gain popularity and will substantially improve reproductive performance, health and fitness, calving ability and production traits while maintaining a medium-sized cow that works well in commercial environments. We look forward to working with ABS on continuing to generate awareness and distribution of these profitable sires."

Herds utilizing crossbreeding or considering it can now look to ABS as the source for crossbred genetics. Contact your local ABS representative or call 1-800-ABS-STUD for more information about the ABS CMS program.
