TODAY ON AGDAY
AUGUST 27, 2014

OPEN HEADLINES:
COMING UP TODAY ON AGDAY - FALLING FARM INCOMES...HOW LOW COULD THEY GO WITH GRAIN PRICES HEADING SOUTH... IN AGRIBUSINESS STRATEGIES FOR TODAY'S MARKETS PLUS, THE BATTLE OVER BIG DATA...WHO WANTS YOU’RE ON FARM INFORMATION. AND MEET THE MAN BEHIND THIS VIRAL VIDEO. AGDAY BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE ALL NEW CHEVY SILVERADO - THE 2014 NORTH AMERICAN TRUCK OF THE YEAR.
FARM INCOME:
GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. GOVERNMENT ECONOMISTS ARE FORECASTING SOMETHING THAT FARMERS ALREADY KNOW - EXPECT A SIZEABLE DROP IN FARM INCOME AS GRAIN PRICES SLIDE. AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.
MAINSTREET INDEX:
LOWER CORN AND SOYBEAN PRICES ARE ALSO BEING FELT IN THE OVERALL RURAL ECONOMY. CREIGHTON UNIVERSITY RELEASED ITS LATEST RURAL MAINSTREET INDEX. THE R-M-I IS AT THE ITS LOWEST LEVEL IN TWO YEARS. THAT'S THE THIRD STRAIGHT MONTH OF A DECLINE. ECONOMIST ERNIE GOSS SAYS PLUMMETING GRAIN PRICES COULD MOVE EVEN LOWER. GOSS SAYS WEAKER GRAIN PRICES ARE TAKING THE AIR OUT OF FARMLAND PRICES IN THE TEN STATES WHICH COVERS THIS SURVEY.
FARM PROGRESS:
CLINTON…SOME 600 VENDORS AT THIS YEAR'S FARM PROGRESS SHOW IN BOONE IOWA HOPE VISITORS BRING THEIR WALLETS... TUESDAY WAS OPENING DAY FOR THE OUTDOOR FARM SHOW. REPS FOR THE SHOW EXPECT MORE THAN 100-THOUSAND PEOPLE TO COME THROUGH. COMPANIES USE THESE SUMMER FARM SHOWS TO DEMONSTRATE THE LATEST IN EQUIPMENT AND PRODUCTS.
BIG DATA:
SOME OF THOSE INNOVATIONS WILL LIKELY CENTER AROUND THE USE OF DATA. BIG DATA IS A BIG DEAL THESE DAYS. MORE INFORMATION IS COMING AT US FASTER THAN EVER BEFORE. A NEW GROUP WANTS TO MAKE SURE FARMERS OWN THEIR INFO. GARY JOINER HAS THAT STORY FROM THE TEXAS FARM BUREAU.
BIG DATA TAG:
CLINTON…THANKS GARY. G-I-S-C WAS CHARTERED IN TEXAS BUT HAS SEVERAL HUNDRED MEMBERS IN 24 STATES.
NAPA CLEAN UP:
CLINTON…HOME AND BUSINESS OWNERS ARE STILL CLEANING UP IN NAPA, CALIFORNIA AFTER A WEEKEND EARTHQUAKE. A LOT OF THE CLEAN-UP IS FOCUSED AROUND THE WINE INDUSTRY. WITH LABOR DAY WEEKEND APPROACHING, WINE SHOP OWNERS AND VINEYARD OPERATORS WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE "OPEN" FOR BUSINESS. EARLY ESTIMATES PUT PROPERTY LOSSES AT A BILLION DOLLARS IN THE COMMUNITY.
BEE RESPONSE:
AND YESTERDAY WE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE MARSHALL FAMILY OF AMERICAN CANYON, CALIFORNIA. THEY WERE PROFILED IN THAT STORY ABOUT THE DROUGHTS' IMPACT ON HONEYBEES.
THE MARSHALL FAMILY TELLS US THEIR FARM SITS RIGHT ON THE EPICENTER BUT THEIR FARM SUSTAINED LITTLE DAMAGE. THEY ONLY LOST ABOUT A BUCKET OF HONEY WHEN IT TIPPED OVER. NOW LET'S CHECK IN WITH MIKE HOFFMAN FOR CROPWATCH, MIKE.
ANALYSIS INTRO:
CLINTON…IN ANALYSIS TODAY, WE'RE GOING BACK A FEW WEEKS TO A CONVERSATION I HAD DURING THE 3I SHOW IN KANSAS REGARDING PRICING STRATEGIES IN A DOWN MARKET.
