TODAY ON AGDAY

OCTOBER 7, 2013

ZILMAX UPDATE:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE POPULAR BETA AGONIST ZILMAX--AFTER BEING PULLED FROM MARKET FOLLOWING ANIMAL MOBILITY QUESTIONS.

AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.

SOUTHEAST RAIN:

AFTER ONE OF THE WETTEST YEARS ON RECORD FARMERS IN THE SOUTHEAST ARE WAITING TO DRY OUT AGAIN. THIS AFTER KAREN MADE ITS WAY TO LAND FROM THE GULF. WIDE STRETCHES OF THE DELTA RECEIVED SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN ALONG WITH HIGH WINDS.

NORTHERN PLAINS SNOW:

AND IN THE NORTHERN PLAINS FROM OREGON TO NEBRASKA, AN EARLY SEASON WINTER STORM DUMPED A FOOT OF SNOW OR MORE IN FIELDS. WINDS WERE CLOCKED ABOVE 30 MILES PER HOUR. THE BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS HIT MANY AREAS ALREADY SOAKED FROM RECENT RAINS. NOW FIELD WORK IS ON HOLD ONCE AGAIN WHILE FARMERS WAIT ON CROPS TO THAW AND DRY OUT.

CROP WATCH:

LET'S TURN NOW TO MIKE HOFFMAN WHO HAS SOME FIELD CONDITION REPORTS. HE JOINS US FROM THE AGDAY WEATHER-CENTER.

MACHINERY PETE:

IT'S TIME FOR MONDAY'S WITH MACHINERY PETE. FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH GREG PETERSON, KNOWN AS MACHINERY PETE, HE'S THE WHO'S WHO OF USED EQUIPMENT.
WE CAUGHT UP WITH HIM AT FARM PROGRESS SHOW A FEW WEEKS BACK TO GET HIS TAKE ON A PRODUCT CALLED A LAGOON CRAWLER.

ANALYSIS:

THIS FRIDAY, THE USDA IS SCHEDULED TO RELEASE IT'S CROP PRODUCTION ESTIMATES.
THE MID-HARVEST REPORT IS TYPICALLY A MARKET MOVER. HOWEVER DUE TO THE STANDOFF IN WASHINGTON, THAT RELEASE IS IN JEOPARDY. FARM DIRECTOR AL PELL, HAS MORE IN TODAY'S ANALYSIS.

TENNESSEE PUMPKIN:

HALLOWEEN NIGHT INCLUDES THE FUN OF CARVING A JACK O' LANTERN. BUT FIRST WE NEED PUMPKINS, BEFORE WE CAN MAKE THEM SPOOKY. UNFORTUNATELY SOME OF THE TENNESSEE PUMPKIN CROP IS WHAT'S SCARY THIS YEAR. CHUCK DENNEY HAS DETAILS IN THIS REPORT FROM U-T INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE.

THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION:

IN FOOD-AND-YOUR FAMILY - WHILE THE THANKSGIVING FEAST IS STILL EIGHT WEEKS AWAY, THIS MORNING WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE OFFICIAL ACTION THAT PROMPTED THE SPECIAL DAY IN NOVEMBER. GEORGE WASHINGTON PROCLAIMED IN 1789 THAT THANKSGIVING IS AN OFFICIAL AMERICAN HOLIDAY.
