The online marketplace IronPlanet is marking the 13th anniversary of its first auction.

IronPlanet celebrates the 13th anniversary of its first online auction today, the company announced. The Internet marketplace specializes in used heavy equipment.

More than $3 billion in equipment sold during that time. IronPlanet's first auction featured one seller, 32 bidders and 22 items. By comparison, IronPlanet’s late March auction this year in the U.S. featured 200 sellers, a total of 1,900 bidders in 44 countries and 953 items.

Auctions are held weekly in the U.S. and monthly in Europe for the agricultural, construction and trucking industries. More than 900,000 registered users have joined the auction hub since 2000, CEO Greg Owens says.
