On-line Johne’s Risk Assessment

October 5, 2012

The Johne’s Disease Integrated Program (JDIP) has created an on-line tool to help dairy farmers evaluate their operations for the risks of spreading Johne’s disease.

"We believe producers will find it a useful tool," says Ken Olson, JDIP outreach coordinator.

Olson encourages producers to work through the assessment with their veterinarian. The on-line tool will ask the producer a series of management questions on how they handle fresh cows, calves, colostrum and so on.

The assessment takes about 30 minutes to complete, but in the end, will give a score on the farm’s management practices and the likelihood of Johne’s disease spread.

The effort is being supported by JDIP and the National Milk Producers Federation.
