Two members of the Cedar Key, Fla., FFA chapter (front, from left), Lauren and Sarah Bartholemy, presented clam appreciation awards to (back, from left) Brian Hogue, Farm Journal Foundation; Dwight Armstrong, National FFA Organization; Howard W. Buffett, Howard G. Buffett Foundation; and Charlene Finck, Farm Journal Foundation. The blue and gold clam medallion is a nod to Cedar Key’s heritage as the nation’s leading clam producer.
The Cedar Key, Fla., FFA chapter is a wonderful example of the students who wear the blue and gold. The group, led by adviser Dennis Voyles, developed four ambitious efforts that supply fish, pork and vegetables to a community food pantry. All of that was accomplished with resourceful creativity and a $2,500 FFA: Food For All grant.
Lauren Bartholemy, chapter president, and her sister Sarah shared the group’s experience—and their passion for fighting hunger—at a recent World Food Prize breakfast hosted by Farmers Feeding the World.
The grant was one of 140 provided through a program supported by Farmers Feeding the World, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the National FFA Organization.
