Deciding when and what to spray can quickly put farmers into a decision-making maze. What nozzle type should they use? What part of the canopy are they targeting? What psi will work best? What about body type? Size? Angle? And how do these factors affect potential drift?
Brad Beutke with Crop-Tech Consulting was on hand at the 2012 Farm Journal Soybean College in Coldwater, Mich., to talk with farmers about some processes that can help them develop some sprayer strategies.
Beutke also discussed three tools farmers can use to help determine what spray nozzle types and setups will work best for their individual situations: the
driftwatch.org website, the
SpraySelect tip selection app from TeeJet, and sprayer paper.
