With more remote management possible in farming than ever before, famers have newfound access to equipment data – even when they’re not in the tractor cab.

The latest company to add remote management features to its portfolio is Precision Planting, which just introduced its FieldView Plus product. Farmers can now set up automatic planter performance text alerts so they can have real-time planting data across multiple pieces of field equipment.

"Growers need to know what’s happening with the planter, even when they’re not in the cab," says Doug Sauder, product manager. "With text alerts via FieldView Plus, they do."

Sauder says farmers can set alert thresholds for multiple metrics, including speed, singulation, spacing, ground contact and excess ground force. After each pass, FieldView Plus analyzes data and sends a notification whenever alert thresholds are exceeded. Farmers can set up and change metrics any time through the FieldView website, and users can sign up multiple phone numbers to receive notifications.

"Growers who are not in the cab all the time get the information they need to address issues before it’s too late," Sauder says. "It’s easy to set up, easy to change and easy to keep your planting performance at the highest level possible."

This year, FieldView Plus is a free to Precision Planting FieldView and SeedSense users. The company is working on a full release for 2014 that will be a subscription-based service.
