Dow AgroSciences is making sure wheat gets a firm foothold in its seed portfolio. The company has acquired Northwest Plant Breeding Company, based in Pullman, Wash.
The acquisition expands on Dow’s certified wheat seed program, based in the Hyland Seeds brand. Rolando Meninato, vice president of Dow’s Seeds, Traits and Oils global business unit, sees the acquisition as an opportunity to support development of new varieties, traits and technology.
The addition of Northwest Plant Breeding’s assets provides a research station, germplasm, several active patents and plant variety protections to Dow AgroSciences. Dow plans to open a cereal breeding station in Pullman by March 2012.
