"Are you part of agriculture?"

On my way to Chicago for the Top Producer Seminar I got to visiting with a man in the airport.  I was sitting at a work station counter trying to get organized before we hit the ground running as soon as I would land in Chicago.  This man took one look at me and then he asked "Are you part of Agriculture?" I must have given him quite a look because the next words out of his mouth were, "You know, are you from a farm?"

Now I can assure you that while I was wearing my favorite boots, I was headed to the windy city and I felt like I had dressed a notch above chore clothes.  I answered the man, "Yes Sir, I am part of agriculture and I grew up on a family cattle ranch." The conversation grew into a discussion about modern agriculture, modern technology and the Top Producer Seminar.

See this is my first trip to Top Producer Seminar and I have been so excited to come because I knew that I would have an invaluable opportunity to meet farmers who are doing amazing things using modern technology and even social media.

What you do is more important than Twitter or Facebook, you feed a hungry and growing world, however profit minded producers like yourselves are embracing technology and using it to your advantage.

Today I had the chance to visit with some of you and I was overwhelmed by how excited you are to learn more about social media, its uses and the benefits that it has for your operations.  Then I realize that you embrace new technology for the same reason you are able to sustainably and efficiently feed the world. You my friends do what it takes; you get the job done whether drought, rain, snow or Tweet.
