May Dairy Cow Slaughter Slows

The United States Department of Agriculture reported this afternoon that dairy farmers sent 248,000 dairy cows to slaughter in federally inspected plants in May. This is 3,000 head less than May 2012, and 20,000 head less than April 2013.

Year-to-date, 1.347 million cows have been slaughter. That’s 53,000 more cattle than last year, or 4%.
