Good morning I’m Clinton Griffiths. While America’s wheat farmers are seeding the winter wheat crop in a timely manner, the crop is struggling to push through the ground.
Investing in irrigation has a big payoff for some producers this year - and not only in corn fields. Mike Hoffman has details in cropwatch.
No safety net for dairy producers could mean a spike in the price consumers pay for at the store. And one dairy group is calling it the dairy cliff.
Meanwhile, agricultural trade with Panama could see a dramatic shift starting next week. The long-sought free trade agreement with panama will enter into force next Wednesday. Mainstream AG trade groups have been working with Washington for years to get this measure approved. The FTA means the removal of some tariffs and other trade barriers on U.S. made products. The National Cattlemen's Beef Association says implementation of the FTA immediately eliminates the 30% tariff on prime and choice beef cuts. It’s been a long time coming. The Bush Administration crafted the deal in 2007, but it lingered in Congress for years. It was approved and signed by the White House this year.
As we discussed earlier, dairy policy is a challenge facing dairy producers in the new year. But looking into the remainder of 2012, it's not an easy battle this year, either. Al Pell sits down with Mike Hogan of Stewart Peterson to see what's ahead.

In food and your family, a man who worked tirelessly as an advocate for the hungry has died at the age of 90. Former U.S. Senator George McGovern died near his home at a hospice over the weekend.
WORLD FOOD PRIZE:
Meanwhile, in conjunction with awarding this year's world food prize winner, other anti-hunger advocates met in Des Moines for the Norman E. Borlaug International symposium last week. One of those individuals is Jeff Simmons who is President of Elanco. During the symposium he said an egg is vital resource, in which people in many countries don't get. He says 3 billion people in this world are struggling to get the proper nutrients they need. And one egg can provide all the nutrients a child needs.
