Crop Comment: Healthy Corn, Beans in Illinois

May 27, 2012 09:38 PM

Todd Thumma, Syngenta area agronomist in northwest Illinois, says he has seen some agronomic challenges this spring, but overall the crops look great.

"We had two or three weather events that rolled through the area early this spring, causing the need for replant," he says.

Additionally, seedling blight, black cutworm moths and cases of seedling blights have all been identified.

Regardless, Thumma says, he’s expecting a good growing season. There’s a lot of good-looking corn in our area, and less than 10% of soybean fields are having problems."
