Fast Facts:

• Valero’s Fort Dodge, Iowa, plant takes in 43 million bushels of corn per year to produce 120 million gallons of ethanol and 400,000 tons of distiller’s grain.

• POET, with six plants capturing corn oil, will produce enough corn oil to use as a feedstock for 12 million gallons of biodiesel per year by the end of 2011.

• Other industrial uses for corn oil include soap, salve, paint, rustproofing for metal surfaces, inks, textiles, nitroglycerin, and insecticides. It is sometimes used as a carrier for drug molecules in pharmaceutical preparations.
