Beef Today Forum "Forage, Feed, and Finance" (8:30-11:30 a.m.)

Going into 2013, producers are faced with a barrage of challenges that will impact their ability to maintain and grow their cattle operations. Derrell Peel, Oklahoma State University livestock economist, will discuss the current cattle situation and how the industry will shift from feeding grain to utilizing forages longer to grow cattle and how that pencils out. Chip Flory, editor of Pro Farmer newsletters and nationally recognized expert on grain and oilseeds markets, will give his outlook on feed prices for the coming year. Steve Hatz from Bank of the West, will talk about what lenders need to finance cattle moving into a time of tighter supplies.

Dairy Today Forum "New Year, New Challenges" (1:00-4:00 p.m.)

2013 will offer no shortage of challenges as dairy producers continue to cope with tight feed supplies and record feed prices. Chip Flory, editor of Pro Farmer newsletters and a nationally recognized expert on grain and oilseeds markets, will give his crystal ball outlook on feed prices for the coming year. Jim Spain, extension dairy specialist with the University of Missouri, will turn conventional wisdom on its head and present new ways of managing heat stress this coming season. Jim Dickrell, editor of Dairy Today, will discuss coming reforms of dairy policy, immigration law and Federal Milk Marketing Orders.
