USDA reports no change or minor changes in crop conditions since last week’s Crop Progress report. Corn condition, with 70% excellent or good, and soybeans at 64%, are unchanged. Cotton condition slipped from 62% excellent–good to 60%, and sorghum, from 64% to 62%.Changes on the poor end of the scale also were minimal.
Corn progress remains ahead of the five-year average, with 94% in dough stage; 73% dented; and 17% mature versus 86%, 55% and 11% on average.
Soybeans are average at 96% setting pods and 8% dropping leaves.
Cotton is a big early, with 96% setting bolls versus 94% average and 29% bolls opening (23% average).
Sorghum heading (95% vs. 90%) and coloring (58% vs. 54%) are just a little behind average.
Spring wheat harvesting stands at 69% versus the usual 75%.
Pasture and range conditions slipped slightly in the past week from 52% excellent–good to 48%. The poor–very poor categories crept up from 19% to 21%.
