Reports from SIMA 2011

This past week from Feb. 20 to Feb. 24 attendees and exhibitors from 104 countries gathered in Paris for the SIMA show. More than 1,300 exhibitors made up the farm show, which only takes place every other year. Our partners at profi were on site to report from the exhibit floor. Here’s a roundup of some of what they found.

MF 5400 twin dadc17bff9e802ec Massey Ferguson has high hopes for the four new additional models to the 5400 range. The 82hp to 107hp 5420, 5430, 5440 and 5450 feature a new lighter back end and more efficient Dyna 4 transmission with all four models using Stage IIIA Perkins engines. Learn more here. 

 

 

johndeereJohn Deere was showing the prototype 960 and 990 variable chamber round balers which do not use a traditional rear tailgate. Instead these balers have a moveable tensioner that allows the two endless belts to clear the rear of the chamber and release the bale. Alfred Weber, Deere’s International product line manager for hay and forage equipment, says a standard tailgate can take up to 18 seconds to open and unload the bale, but these new models take just 5 seconds and are also much lighter. ClaasAxionSpanning 280 to 400hp the Axion 900 will plug a big gap in the Claas tractor line when it goes on sale next spring, but the firm is staying relatively tight lipped on the finer details. The cab also gets the CMOTION multi function joystick which we first saw in the larger frame Xerions and has also been tested in the Lexion combines. Learn more here.
 
 
DeutzFahrTractorDeutz-Fahr is quickly filling out its TTV range as it wants a complete CVT offering up to 400hp in the not too distant future. The three-model Agrotron TTV400 forms an important part of this by bridging the gap between the smaller Agrofarm and the larger six-cylinder Agrotrons. The 110, 120 and 130hp TTV410, 420 and 430 use a ZF Ecom 1.3 transmission which is similar to that used in the larger tractors but with a smaller hydro unit to make the box shorter. Engine wise these models use a four-valve Deutz Stage IIIA engine with common rail fuel injection. Learn more here.
