Add another farm show to the calendar. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (www.aem.org) announces they will start a new event in the world of farm machinery.

The first AG CONNECT Expo will be held January 12 to 15, 2010 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. It will be modeled after their successful CONEXPO event, which is always held in Las Vegas.

Don’t pack your tolerance for losing to the house, but do pack your Mickey Mouse ears.

The show will become a biannual event after being held in back-to-back years 2010 and 2011.

This show has been tossed around with AEM for some time. Exhibitors will include machinery companies in support of AG CONNECT Expo 2010, which include AGCO, Case IH, John Deere, Krause, Krone, MacDon, McCormick and New Holland. But don’t think the show will just be iron. Other equipment, crop protection, seed, fertilizer and allied industry firms will also take part in the event.

AEM estimates 700 exhibitors using more than 250,000 net square feet of exhibit space, and an attendance of approximately 20,000 industry professionals.

In comparison…

Agritechnica (held every other year in Germany) attracts 340,000 visitors from 36 countries.

The National Farm Machinery Show (held every year in Louisville, Ky.) has 1.3 million sq. ft. of exhibit space for 850 exhibitors and attracts 309,000 attendees.

Dealer association asks members to rate manufacturers

The North American Dealers Association recently asked its members to report satisfaction ratings between them and manufacturers. Areas reported included: product availability (the big question right now), product quality, technical support, parts availability and quality, manufacturer response to dealer need, warranty procedures, and more.

Some quick highlights:

Dealers gave the highest marks for quality of parts and products.
Shortline manufacturers ranked higher in product availability than full-line manufacturers.
Overall, dealers cited satisfaction with manufacturer high on their overall rankings.

The survey included 26 brands.

Power shift

Since 1996, Cummins Inc. and Fiat had a joint venture in the European Engine Alliance (EEA). Today, they announced that Fiat will have full control of EEA, which has its main development projects in 4, 5 and 6-liter diesel engines.

Cummins will receive CNH Global’s 50% stake in joint venture Consolidated Diesel Corp. This N.C.-based company began in 1980 with a partnership between Cummins and Case Corp. (now part of CNH Global).

EEA has some manufacturing assets in Turin, Italy.

622 Row Units

In all, it took 26 semi loads to haul in all the farm equipment on display at Great Plains dealer meeting and product introduction. On the show’s floor were 622 row units and 544 turbo coulters.

New products include:

The versatile YP40 planter with three choices of openers and the ability of seven row spacing configurations.

The Narrow transport 3007HD drill that folds out with its three sections expanding to a 30’ planting width
The tough DF4010HD drill provides a 40’ planting width in no-till conditions, has seed and dry fertilizer boxes and is built heavy-duty—true to the “HD” in its model name.
The Turbo-Till (Great Plains’ original vertical tillage tool) has been expanded with the Turbo-Till Series II with its 12’, 15’, 18’, and 24’ working widths. All Turbo-Tills are now built with 3” C-shank standards and heavy-duty rubber mounted gang bearings.
The all-new Turbo-Chopper is the cousin of the Turbo-Till adding to the Great Plains line up of vertical tillage tools. Built on the same frame as the Turbo-Till, the Turbo-Chopper attacks root balls and clods with its front gang of Turbo Coulters followed by a gang of chopper reels.

The Turbo-chisel is Great Plains takes on a coulter chisel. Its front gang of Turbo coulters can be followed by two options of shanks and then two options of rear attachments.
Great Plains also expanded their models of compact drills.

Skid Steer tug of war

This time the machines are put in the ring. As part of their Skid Steer Smackdown website, Deere has uploaded a video showing a skid steer tug of war. The skid steers are connected by chain and try to pull the other out of the ring. Check it out at www.skidsteersmackdown.com.

The site showcases Deere’s line up of small-frame skid steers by putting them in challenges competing with other machines on the market. This is the fourth video to be posted to the site.

Diesel-saving round bale mover

The Stick Wagon takes claim as the first round hay bale hauler that can be used with an ATV.

Combining a bay spear and a trailer, this piece of equipment allows you to check livestock and feed in one trip with your ATV. Available in two models, the Stick Wagon also double as a feeder–the tongue can fold back to protect it from damage. Maximum loads on the two models are 2,800 lb. and 3020 lb.
