#1: I currently receive $32 in SNAP benefits and can get an average of 12 meals out of the benefits. The cost of food has recently risen and is quite noticeable to me. I barely make it through the month on my food budget and am grateful for the SNAP benefits I do receive. Going to restaurants means those 12 meals would turn into 6. I really feel that the stipulations which are current for this program should stay in place; only raw food and approved processed packaged foods should be purchased with SNAP cards. The nutrition provided by fast food restaurants in particular are lacking; high sodium, high sugar, fructose corn sugar, dyes, and unnecessary chemicals in order tor the food to have a longer shelf life or to promote an aesthetic look desired by the food manufacturer. Those SNAP dollars can go a lot further by buying raw foods.
#2: We love watching John Phipps on Sunday mornings. He keeps us informed and better prepared for what's coming round the bend. This morning, at the very end of the show, right after he answered the gentleman writing in about the size of the U.S., Russia, Canada, etc., John spoke of a wealthy Chinese man who had bought up land in Iceland to build a hotel in preparation for shipping thru the Arctic from China to Europe. John said that the U.S. Navy has stated that all ice should be out of the Arctic by 2035. Can you send us more info on that or point us in the right direction to find out more about that? Great job!
