Dickens, Deere and Garth?

Garth Brooks was made famous in part by this famous line, "I’ve got friends in low places." Take a look at Brooks’ birthday buddies and you might beg to differ. Also born on February 7 are a few household names, Charles Dickens (1812), Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867), Ashton Kutcher (1978) and the man who would forever change the machinery market, John Deere (1804).
Whether you prefer blue tractors, red tractors, orange tractors or rainbow tractors, it is hard to deny that John Deere made his mark on machines when he introduced the first cast-steel plow to the market in 1836 at the age of 32. Previous to this time most farmers used iron or wood plows which the damp soils of the Midwest had a tendency to clump and cling to. Deere’s steel plow "self-cleaned" and made it more achievable to plow more ground in less time.
Today John Deere Co. makes a variety of machinery ranging from harvesters, planters, tractors, construction equipment and landscaping machines. Happy Birthday to those born today, who have enriched our minds, impacted our culture and paved the way for agricultural innovation.
