Tweeting Flood Relief

Jul 28, 2011

This past week at Ag Media Summit, Bayer CropScience announced they donated $2,604 to the Red Cross for those who suffered loss due to the historic flooding across the Midwest, South and Southwest.

Using Twitter the company set up a two-week program during which Bayer CropScience pledged to make a $5 donation to the American Red Cross for each tweet including the hashtag #BCSFloodRelief. More than 250 people participated in the #BCSFloodRelief program announced at the company's Northern Field Technology Station near Sabin, Minn. during an event in early July.

"The flooding we’ve seen this spring and summer has devastated so many lives and will impact agriculture over the next several years," notes Jim Blome, President/CEO for Bayer CropScience. "It is important to Bayer CropScience that we are an active partner in the communities where we do business. The donation to the American Red Cross will assist relief efforts in all the U.S. regions affected by flooding this year. We hope that by engaging others through Twitter, we reminded Americans that help is needed still and will be needed long after the initial flood events."
