Grains Up Big Across The Board

Apr 27, 2012

At the time of this post we see corn up 24 1/2, soybeans up 20, and Chicago wheat up 15 3/4. Helping push the grains higher this morning were large new crop sales to China and "unknown destinations" for both corn and soybeans. New crop corn has moved into the high side of it's recent trading range and on November beans we look ready to re-test 1400.

Sales reported by the Foriegn Ag Service:

1,440,000 metric tons of corn for delivery to unknown destinations -- 2012/2013

120,000 metric tons of corn for delivery to China -- 2011/2012

116,000 metric tons of soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations -- 2012/2013

110,000 metric tons of soybeans for delivery to China -- 2012/2013

TM

Keep in mind we have first notice day for May corn, soybeans, and Chicago wheat on Monday, April 30th. Live Cattle Hits Limit Down Move as Mad Cow Scare Hits Market

Apr 24, 2012

The cattle market hit limit down trading shortly after rumors started circulating that mad cow disease was found in central California. Reports are that it was a dairy cow and did not enter the food chain. This would be a different situation then what occurred in 2003 when a beef cow was found to have the disease, eventually pushing the live cattle market nearly 20% lower.

The live cattle market rallied off lock-limit trading, ending the day down 2.275 for June delivery. Follow us on Twitter @GrainTV to receive live updates as this situation develops

Below is a chart showing the futures market reaction to the USDA report on December 23rd, 2003 that meat from a cow had tested positive for mad cow.

Thomson Reuters reporting:

"USDA Chief Veterinary Officer - Carcass of cow was destroyed and no parts of the cow entered the human food chain."

"USDA's Clifford - USDA has begun the process of notifying OIE and trading partners of findings, should not affect exports."

Rumor Mill Makes For A Strong Close To Friday's Soybean Trade

Apr 20, 2012

Rumors late in the session of China in the soybean market and export delays out of Brazil helped rally soybean futures into the close. The last trade was above 1450, but we saw a settled price of 1446 3/4 for the May contract. In today's episode, Logan and Abbey discuss this price action and what we are seeing in the cash market. Grains Rally after Approaching Key Price Levels

Apr 19, 2012

Grains Taking It on the Chin - Key Price Levels Ahead for Corn, Beans and Wheat

Apr 18, 2012

On this morning's broadcast Kevin and Cody discuss the delayed crop progress report, and what wheat producers should do in light of this spring and winter wheat crop that is off to a great start. Tune in for the full report!

Keep an eye on the soybean complex as last Friday's COT report showed 216,000 net longs held by managed money. When these bulls exit the plane expect turbulence, and with nearly 50 cents taken off the May contract in the last week there could be some nervous longs in the managed money sector.

It will be important to see where we close today, follow us on Twitter @GrainTV for updates if you are out working the fields. Want to view live quotes and execute your own trades for $7 commissions per side? Take a demo of Firetip today!

Export Sales Help Soybeans Lead to the Upside

Apr 17, 2012

At the time of this post we see soybeans leading the grains to the upside, up 12 3/4 cents for May delivery. Export sales to unknown destinations were reported this morning for old and new crop soybeans, and it looks to be lending support to a market that has sold off in recent sessions.

This morning Brock and Logan discuss fundamentals in the soybean complex and expectations for this afternoons delayed crop progress report. Like the live quotes and charts you see on GrainTV? Take a Firetip demo today!

Inverted Cash Market Offers Few Storage Incentives for Old Crop Corn

Apr 13, 2012

This afternoon Abbey and Logan look back at a week in the grains that saw most contracts trade lower after Tuesday's USDA WASDE report. Abbey looked at some cash market data, specifically cash price spreads moving into summer. The cash market is inverted through harvest in many markets, providing little incentive to store old crop corn. Tune in for the full report!

USDA WASDE Report Analysis

Apr 10, 2012

The market is open and we see mixed trading on the board right now. Corn down 3, soybeans up 7, and Chicago wheat up 1 1/4 at the time of this post. Today's USDA WASDE report didn't give the bulls much to run on, with the exception being lower ending stocks of wheat and improved export expectations for soybeans. Driving higher export expectations was a further downgrade in soybean production out of Brazil, which was lowered 2.5 MMT from the March report. This wasn't a huge surprise, as we saw private analyst Informa peg production in this area on April 4th.

1450 has provided resistance to the May soybean contract in recent trade sessions, and producers should keep an eye on this area if they are still holding old crop beans. Follow us on Twitter at @GrainTV to get live market updates if you are working in the fields today.
