A career as an agricultural journalist was a natural fit for Katie after growing up on a diversified livestock operation. While attending the University of Missouri–Columbia and pursuing a degree in agricultural journalism, she had internships with the Missouri Farm Bureau and the Missouri Pork Producers Association and was managing editor of The Rural Sociologist. In college, she received first place in the National Association of Agricultural Journalists’ student writing contest and first place in the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow’s national critique for her photo story.
During her senior year, she was an intern for Farm Journal, and after graduation in June 2001, she joined the staff as a copy editor and writer, primarily covering machinery and crops. Katie became managing editor in 2008. In this position, she directs all facets of producing Farm Journal.
Katie and her husband manage a cow/calf operation near Fulton, Mo., where they live with their four sons.
