“Where we used Headline® fungicide this year, our corn stayed greener and healthier, longer. It was really impressive,” said corn producer Kevin Klahn of Brooklyn, Wisconsin, as he sized up his 2006 crop.

This is Klahn’s second year running field trials with Headline, which he compared in 2005 to an untreated check.

“The samples we pulled from our 2005 crop showed a 14 to 30 bushel per acre increase where Headline was applied,” said Klahn, who placed in last year’s NCGA Corn Yield Contest. “We think that’s very good, and that’s why we decided to run a more extensive Headline program this year.”

Test weights had not been posted when Klahn talked about his 2006 field trials, but he estimated that Headline would give treated acreage a yield advantage of at least 15 percent.

Klahn knows that yields don’t come automatically. They are largely the result of good plant health. “I see Headline as critical to plant pealth. It’s about more than just keeping diseases from getting a foothold.”

Klahn grows about 2,000 acres of cash grain, mainly corn. He used Headline on about 500 acres this year.

“We don’t usually jump headlong into using new technology, but what we see this year is plant health advantages and better standability from Headline. If the yield boost turns out to be as much as I expect from this crop, we’ll spray even more acres next year,” he concluded.

Kevin Klahn in Brooklyn, Wisconsin says “plant health is critical to getting the most from his corn crop.”
