4/17/2013 ALERT: Farm Diesel Flat for Third Straight Week

April 17, 2013
By: Davis Michaelsen, Pro Farmer Inputs Monitor Editor

Farm Diesel --

Farm diesel was unchanged in your Monitor's weekly index at $3.530 with a one penny move higher in Iowa representing the only movement in the entire index. Growers have booked needs for the spring plant by now and low demand is as much a factor here as in global crude markets.

With eleven of the twelve states in the Inputs Monitor index unchanged -- some for three solid weeks -- and Iowa adding just a penny, trends suggest a seasonal low may be in place for Farm Diesel.

Check with your preferred retailer and consider booking a portion of farm diesel needs for future delivery now.

The National Weather Service predicts cooler temperatures in its recent 6-10 day forecast and another round of snow is predicted for the Dakotas. A good hard cold snap could inflate farm diesel near-term, but this market has not shown itself to be that responsive to immediate drawdowns in the distillate supply for heating oil.
