Construction on the first new potash mine in Canada in more than 40 years began June 19 as Germany's K+S Group and its subsidiary K+S Potash Canada broke ground on the new mine located at the Legacy Site, near Moose Jay, Saskatchewan. The ground breaking noted the firm was nearing completion of initial work on the project which is composed primarily of infrastructure development which includes road work, earthwork for the plant, drilling of the first wells and the establishment of the supporting water system.

The new mine is projected to produce 2.86 million metric tons (MMT) of potash annually with initial production targed for 2015. The mine could eventually be expanded to produce 4 MMT annually.
