December 19, 2012
By: Davis Michaelsen, Pro Farmer Inputs Monitor Reporter

nozzleNational gasoline prices fell across the board again during the week and continue to hint at easing below year-over levels. Highway diesel also fell in all regions over the week but is still hovering above last year's prices in all regions but one.

Gasoline-

Average national retail price for regular gasoline fell 0.095 to 3.254 per gallon -- 0.025 above year-ago prices.

East Coast gasoline down 0.067 to 3.350; Midwest region posted the sharpest decline during the week, shucking 0.140 to 3.144; Gulf Coast 0.077 lower to 3.045 marking the cheapest gasoline in the nation for the third consecutive week.

Rocky Mountain gasoline 0.117 lower to 3.211 and the West Coast posts a 0.087 decline to 3.457.

Highway Diesel --

National average price for highway diesel 0.046 lower nationwide, ending the report week at 3.945, 0.117 above year-ago.

East Coast 0.042 lower to 4.027; Midwest highway diesel down 0.059 to 3.918; Gulf Coast 0.027 lower to 3.847; Rocky Mountain regional diesel drops 0.072 to 3.866 and West coast regional diesel slides 0.045 to end the week lower at 3.997.

Your Inputs monitor issued a 'buy' alert on Friday as we believe trends suggest a seasonal low is in place for farm diesel. Pressure on distillate stocks for heating oil will divert distillate supplies from diesel production and could drive diesel prices back toward the upside as temperatures fall.
