Honeywell Advances Natural Gas Processing

Honeywell subsidiary UOP Llc. announced a new advanced membrane element designed to increase natural gas processing capacity. The new design promises to widen margins and allow producers to reduce costs and increase revenue.

The product itself, Separex, has been used widely in the industry and the improved membranes will fit with existing machinery already in place. The membranes eliminate the need for solvents and will be particularly handy in remote locations, where logistics and basic transport of supplies are difficult. The units can be used on or offshore, require little to no utilities and offer high turnaround capabilities.

"UOP is focused on developing technologies that help natural gas producers maximize their output at minimal cost," said Rebecca Liebert, vice president and general manager of Honeywell's UOP Gas Processing and Hydrogen business unit. "UOP's new Separex Flux+ membrane element increases gas processing capacity over existing technology, translating to increased revenue and reduced operating costs for natural gas producers."

Advances like this will help the United States better take advantage of the abundant natural gas resources in the shale. These new membranes will streamline natural gas processing and more easily remove contaminants, encouraging transport by pipeline.
