USDA Iowa-- Inputs Monitor Nutrient Basis Report

Inputs Monitor Iowa basis for the reporting week of December 3, 2012 stands at a slim 0.75 on a state-state comparison of local fertilizer prices. Regional nutrient basis stands at 1.09. The table below is a side-by-side comparison of prices paid for fertilizer reported by USDA and asking prices reported to your Inputs Monitor. Inputs Monitor's Iowa numbers and Inputs Monitor Regional Index numbers are compared separately to USDA findings.

State-vs-state --

MAP comes in with the widest state-over-state margin at 4.6 where Inputs Monitor posts $669.00 to USDA's $638.00; LP follows with a margin of 2.9; UAN28 at 2.1; Farm diesel at 1.9 -- USDA at 3.44 to the Monitor's 3.51 and Anhydrous and Potash share the low end of this basis comparison at 1.3.

Composite state-to-state basis posts a thin 0.75 margin.

USDA Iowa-vs-Inputs Monitor Regional Index --

LP garners the largest margin here at 6.2 followed by MAP at 4.5. Farm diesel at 3.6 with USDA posting 3.44 to the Monitor's 3.57. UAN28 basis at 1.5; Potash under one-half point at .48 and Anhydrous boasts the thinnest margin -- USDA NH3 at $871.00 to the Monitor's $870.91 per tonne.
