Weekly Fuels Report

Gasoline and highway diesel prices both ticked upward last week after falling for the previous two weeks. November crude oscillated wildly on the week but remained well below $100 per barrel. Natural gas near-month prices acted much the same placing a top at $3.52 on Wednesday 10/3 before falling sharply. Today, November nattie eliminated the week-over declines testing the upside top again at $3.52 -- closing $0.07 higher on the day at $3.47.

Gasoline -

Average national retail price for regular gasoline was up $0.015 last week to $4.094/gallon, $0.373 higher than the same period last year. Rocky Mountain Region lower $0.011 to $4.194; East Coast gasoline $0.003 lower to $3.798 -- $0.395 higher year-over. Midwest gasoline also lower to $3.772/gallon, down $0.012 on the week; Gulf Coast lower $0.018 to $3.537/gallon. West Coast $0.328 higher to $4.409 -- $0.655 above the same period last year.

California posted the highest priced gasoline in the U.S. at $4.659/gallon -- $0.483 higher week-over -- $0.844 higher year-over.

Highway Diesel -

National average diesel prices were higher last week by $0.015 to $4.094/gallon, up $0.373 over the same time last year. The Rocky Mountain Region led declines, dropping $0.011 to $4.194/gallon; West Coast region (minus California) also declined $0.005 to $4.207. East Coast diesel at $4.097, up $0.016 week-over; Midwest diesel $0.027 stronger on the week to $4.040/gallon. Gulf Coast diesel unchanged week-over -- up $0.348 on last year.

California posted the high mark for diesel as well, up $0.038 week-over to end the week at $4.414/gallon -- up $0.437 year-over.
