Residential heating oil prices moved slightly higher during the report week adding 0.012 to 3.973 per gallon -- 0.038 higher than year-ago. Wholesale heating oil declined 0.024 to 3.142 per gallon -- 0.019 below the same time last year.
The average residential propane price increased by less than a penny again last week to $2.433 per gallon -- 0.433 per gallon lower than the same period last year. Wholesale propane prices decreased by 0.055 to $0.922 per gallon -- 0.336 less than the same time last year.
According to EIA, temperatures during the report week were 2.4 degrees cooler than the 30-year normal temperature and 9.1 degrees cooler than the same period last year. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states averaged 31.3 degrees, compared to 40.4 degrees last year and the 30-year normal of 33.7 degrees. During the week all regions with the exception of the South Atlantic Census division were cooler than normal. The South Atlantic Census division averaged a little (0.1 degrees) above the 30-year normal. The Mountain and Pacific Census divisions in the West were particularly cool, averaging 7.3 and 5.0 degrees cooler, respectively, than the 30-year normal.
Heating degree-days nationwide were 7.7 percent above normal and 37.0 percent above last year.
