Cattle on Feed: Improving Demand

May 21, 2010

USDA released their March Cattle on Feed report this afternoon (U.S. Cattle on Feed Down 3%).
Ron Plain, University of Missouri extension economist, says the May Cattle on Feed report had few surprises for the industry.
"This is the lowest inventory for May 1 since 2004," Plain says. "So that's a good indication that marketings out of feedlots will continue to be light this summer."
Steve Kay says you can find several slight positives in the report. "We are in our best demand period of the year, and demand overall is improving as each month goes by."
