Through a New Holland innovation, tractors with continuously variable transmissions and trailers can be braked without actuating the brake pedal. The trailer brake is not activated, so the pushing effect of the trailer braking is eliminated.
High speed tractor and trailer combinations are standard practice across western Europe. This system won a silver medal for innovation at Agritechnica 2011.
The system measures the tractor deceleration and calculates the forces at the drive axles. To keep the tractor and trailer duo stable, the force that is dissipated with the targeted braking of the trailer is calculated from the difference. The system does not require any additional equipment on the trailer, so it is compatible with modern ABS technology.
