Not all lime is created equal, and farmers can benefit from knowing how to evaluate the quality of the lime they purchase, says Bill Bauer, agronomic consultant and owner of B&M Crop Consulting, Coldwater, Mich.
He says the two elements contributing to good lime applications are quality of product and fineness of product. Both can differ substantially between quarries, he notes.
