World Dairy Expo is all about showing off new products. This year’s show, held in October in Madison, Wis., was no different. Here are three of the new products introduced.

Quick, Easy Moisture Tester

Digi-Star is known for scales that weigh feedstuffs prior to entering the bunk, but this year the company debuted their newest innovation: Moisture Tracker.

The hand-held and operated moisture tester, co-developed with Valley Ag Software, can deliver test results in just a few minutes directly on the farm, measuring samples using near infrared light.

"It’s designed in the end to be simple, quick and accurate to use," says Chris Horton, product planning manager.

Currently, the Moisture Tracker can analyze nine different types of crops for dry matter and moisture content. That number will be expanded and could eventually reach into the hundreds with various byproducts.

DeLaval Clover Liner

Typical milker liners are round or triangular, but DeLaval has put a new spin on milking with its Clover liner. The new liner reduces air channels that can occur with other liner shapes by keeping in continuous contact with the teat.

"We have a smarter design that hugs the teat better, providing exceptional relief to the teat skin. This helps promote teat end health," says Nathan Brown, solution manager for rubber liners and tubes at DeLaval.

The Clover became commercially available to the U.S. in September and by early October was milking more than 150,000 cows. Clover liner life is estimated at 2,500 milkings, which is double that of other liners.

Trigger-Operated Teat Scrubber

Puli Sistem

Puli-Sistem, an Italian-based company, will now be offering its trigger-operated, 4Motion Teat Scrubber here in the U.S.

Vecchia Giuliano, general manager of Puli-Sistem, developed the technology more than 20 years ago, and it has been sold throughout Europe and worldwide.

In 2013, A & L Laboratories entered into an agreement to distribute Giuliano’s teat scrubber in the U.S.

The 4Motion allows dairy producers to wash, massage, disinfect and dry cows teats with one self-contained unit that is easy to operate in the parlor.

The teat scrubber will help dairy farmers improve udder health and mastitis prevention while decreasing somatic cell counts and time spent prepping cows.
