As harvest winds down, you can take some time and determine what grain you should push into the market or throw into a grain bin.
Bob Utterback, president of Utterback Marketing and Farm Journal economist, says several factors are contributing to the storage decision this year.
“If I had to make a decision right now, I would store beans because I think they are closer to the bottom and has a more speculative bounce bubble than corn. I think corn is going to be held,” he says.
He says that with the current narrow corn basis, it’s really not paying big dividends to store corn forward. “I think the storage decision is really coming down to: I want to get rid of my corn because of tight basis.”
