Soap Opera Set in a Corn Field
May 28, 2011
In a recent issue of Farm Life magazine, I was tipped off on a soap opera that was formed out in a corn field. As the Corn Grows is a series set in fictional Sweet Swine County that aims to give a tongue-and-cheek look at rural life. The story follows big-city girl (Urban Katie) who leaves behind her city life to move to Southern Minnesota after inheriting a farm from her Aunt Ella.
Two members of the corny cast, Ed Powers and Steve Fisher, are AGCO employees at the sprayer application equipment division at the company’s Jackson, Minn., factory.
As the Corn Grows is a production of
Our Story Productions, which was formed in 2007 and launched As the Corn Grows in 2008. The group has a goal of showing “small town living at its best” in each of its 60-minute programs that are aired online and on public-access TV in 34 counties across Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and South Dakota.
