Barb Dartt, a founding partner of GROW:The Family Business Advisors, enjoys supporting clients as they plan for the future of their businesses and families. She joined Salisbury Management Services – later named Lookout Ridge Consulting – in September 2001, bringing experience in both financial and production management. Today, Barb assists business owners with financial analysis, business succession, operational and long-term planning as well as other opportunities and challenges unique to family-owned businesses. Barb is also a facilitator for Farm Journal's Top Producer Executive NetworkTM.
Prior to joining SMS/LRC, Barb worked for Michigan State University as a Farm Business Management Specialist in the Department of Agricultural Economics and as a Regional Dairy Extension Agent for Ionia, Kent and Montcalm counties. Previously, Barb practiced veterinary medicine on dairy farms in the Fowlerville area and served as a graduate research assistant for the MSU Department of Agricultural Economics. Her master’s research investigated the profitability, labor efficiency and quality of life on rotationally grazed Michigan dairy farms.
In 2008, Barbara received her certificate in Family Business Advising from the Family Firm Institute, and in 2003, she became an Accredited Agricultural Consultant through the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. She also serves on the board of the Michigan FFA Foundation. Barb received her M.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1998, her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 and her B.A. in animal science in 1993 - all from Michigan State University. Barbara lives in Olivet, Mich., with her husband and three children. She enjoys cooking, reading and watching basketball.
