TPEN Reflection: Culture

Peer groups are useful because they give you insight into how other business owners handle family, staff and strategy. We often think of benchmarking as financial or production oriented, but you have just as much opportunity to compare communication, culture and business improvement practices.

Take action: As the busy-ness (and fun) of summer fills your days, remember these three things: Tell your family members you appreciate their commitment. When you see your employees doing a good job, let them know. And take some time to check in with your business partners about your and their expectations for the business. Are things moving in the right direction? Are your systems, skills and strategies progressing? Just like crops or livestock, the business needs to continuing growing and maturing.
