Jim Bower: Market Analyst
James Bower is Owner and President of Bower Trading, Inc., a full service commodities futures and options brokerage firm specializing in trading the global agricultural markets with an emphasis on meeting each client’s unique needs and requirements. James has more than 30 years of experience in the commodities and futures business.
Bower Trading, located in Lafayette, Indiana, is nationally recognized as a leader in the futures and options industry with expanded emphasis into the global marketplace, especially Brazil and other South and Central American countries. James founded Bower Trading in 1988.
In 1971 he graduated Cum Laude from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York where he was a Midshipman. Additionally while there he received the Gulf Oil Award and was the captain of the varsity basketball team.
James taught at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Northwestern Michigan from 1971 to 1975, earning the designation of Head of the Deck Officer Training Program.
In 1975 James began his career as a manager of Conti Carriers and Terminals, and later, as an account executive for Conti Commodity Services. Bower was recognized as the youngest account executive to earn the ranking of the top ten world-wide producers for two consecutive years. (Profits for the customer.)
In 1984 James joined Shearson Lehman as a Vice President of their commodities division where he oversaw office operations and provided customer service to a wide range of agri-business clientele. At Shearson he began his marketing efforts through the use of the media by initiating national television exposure for the commodities division. He became a senior market analyst on agri-business networks such as AgDay Television and an oft-quoted expert on agricultural market globalization in The Wall Street Journal.
As part of James’ deep interest and expertise in the globalization of the grain and soybean markets, in 2004 he co-founded Amerazil, LLC—a company specializing in investment and project funding opportunities in Brazil, South America with particular focus on the north central regions of Brazil. He is currently enrolled in Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, on a continuing basis to further his studies of Brazilian, Portuguese language and culture; and developing language skills necessary for the global business community.
James is an avid equestrian, a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and a member and active rider on the non-pro Cutting Horse circuit. James has two children, ages 22 and 18, and lives in Zionsville, Indiana.
