$200 Double Your Money Winner: A Skid Steer Loader Boom Makes a Heavy-Duty Workbench

Sometimes repurposing something makes it even better than the original, such as the skid steer loader boom I made into a workbench. We had a skid steer boom we couldn’t use anymore because the welds were defective. The manufacturer replaced it for free, but the old boom was in the way. We were in the process of building a new shop and decided to use the boom as a workbench. It cost about $600 and took two days to build with the help of three people. We shortened the boom by 2' and narrowed the depth by 9". Then we welded three 39.5"x4" flat steel pieces as braces to support the sides of the boom. Next, we welded a 4'x8' sheet of ¾" steel for the top. We had to use a forklift to move the workbench so I don’t think it’s going anywhere.

Bracket Helps Secure Power Washer Gun

When using a power washer, it’s almost impossible to hold the gun with one hand. I developed a bracket, much like a sling shot, made of 3⁄8" bar stock and screw clamps to steady the spray gun around my hand and forearm. Now I can easily control the power washer gun with one hand and climb equipment, for example, with the other.

Safe and Convenient Skid Steer Steps

No matter what I’m doing, I almost always have to get on and off my skid steer when it’s in use. To make it easier to climb in and out, I welded two steps on the back of my skid steer bucket, one on each side. The steps are made from leftover industrial stair tread that was lying around my shop.
