Helpful Hand

F11051 BReaching into my truck-bed toolbox from the side often means I can’t quite get ahold of something at the bottom or other end. I mounted a collapsible show stick on the underside of the toolbox lid that I can use to grab or drag the item that is out of my reach.

Skid Shoes for Snow Removal

F11051 ATo push the snow off my driveway without scraping the gravel, I made 7"-wide, heavy-duty skid shoes for the back of my three-point blade. The shoes are made from 4" pipe and a solid shaft connected to the back lip of the blade with a bracket made from rectangular iron. There are two bolts for pivot adjustment. Blade clearance can be adjusted with spacers or by changing the blade’s tilt. The shoe maintains surface contact regardless of the angle or tilt. A quick pin allows for easy removal.

Perfectly in Line

Sheldon, Mo.

It was always difficult to line up the hoppers on our grain trailer over the unloading auger. Now I use two disk blades with painted stripes to ensure I hit the spot. When the truck and trailer are in the correct position to unload the first hopper, I lay a disk blade so the stripe lines up with the cap on the fuel tank of the truck. When it is time to empty the second hopper, I pull forward and again position the second disk blade to line up with the fuel tank cap. The markers stay put until we change bins.

To unload a grain trailer, Charles Claflin uses two disk blades as guides to line up the grain trailer and the unloading auger. All of the farm’s trucks have the same wheelbase and their grain trailers are the same length, so two disk blades do the trick for any driver in any grain truck. Claflin Farms is a family-owned business near Sheldon, Mo., that raises corn, soybeans and beef cattle.
