12 Days of Top Producer Seminar: Be a Good Coach

The process of shifting from a doer of farm tasks to a leader of people can be disorienting because it requires a fundamental change of perspective. Farm leaders have visibility into the long time horizon of their organizations. That represents not just a job change but a career change, explains Bob Grace, a leadership and organizational development consultant with The Leadership Effect. The St. Louis-based consulting firm advises clients in agribusiness and other industries. On January 25, Bob Grace, a leadership coach, will present a breakout session at the 2018 Top Producer Seminar on practical tips for coaching others.

According to Grace there are five behaviors that embody a good leader.

  1. Communicate frequently the direction the farm is going.
  2. Model good behavior.
  3. Embody the culture they want to see in the organization.
  4. Know their team members and understand how they prefer to collaborate and communicate.
  5. Be self-aware and know when they are hindering progress

Grace’s session will occur during the 10:10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. breakout sessions on Thursday.
