Ethanol expansion is continuing for VeraSun Energy Corp. The Brookings, S.D.-based producer and marketer of ethanol and distillers grains, recently announced the opening of a biorefinery located near Dyersville, Iowa.
The Plant Specifics
The new plant is intended to:
- produce of 110 million gallons of ethanol annually
- process about 39 million bushels of corn
- produce about 350,000 tons of distillers grains for livestock feed
- employ 55 workers
Construction on the plant began in October 2006. The Dyersville location is the fifth VeraSun facility to come on-line this year.
"We are pleased to bring another large-scale, environmentally friendly ethanol production facility on-line in the state of Iowa," said Don Endres, VeraSun CEO in a company release. "The state continues to be a leader in renewable fuels production."
Iowa's Ethanol Production
According to Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, the Dyersville plant marks 32 operating biorefineries in Iowa. Overall annual production capacity for the state now reaches almost 2.5 billion gallons
