Nearly 600 vie for $1 million in Minnesota grants

Nearly 600 Minnesota livestock producers have applied for more than $11 million in grants to offset the costs of new investments in their operations. These investments are valued at approximately $150 million.
There's only one problem: The Minnesota Legislature has allocated just $1 million for the program. (The program was initially envisioned as a dairy-only investment tax credit, but was broadened to all classes of livestock and converted to a grant program.)
Grants will be awarded competitively. Livestock producers had until September 15 to apply for grant assistance. Those qualifying will be reimbursed 10% of the first $500,000 of their investment, with a minimum investment of $4,000. The applications are currently being reviewed, and all applicants will be notified by October 30.
