AGCO introduced a handful of new machinery at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, this week. Here are some highlights.
Challenger 1000 Series Tractors
Challenger introduced a new category of tractors this week—the Challenger 1000 Series. The four models couple the power of a small-frame, articulated four-wheel drive with the flexibility and speed of a lighter-weight, fixed-frame row-crop machine. Engine horsepower ranges from 396 to 517 with a weight range of 31,204 lb. 50,706 lb.
The Challenger 1000 Series tractors are built on the new AccuEngineering platform, which includes the AccuDrive powertrain—a combination of the Challenger Accu-VT continuously variable transmission and variable four-wheel drive. High-capacity six-cylinder, 12.4-liter, MAN engines with VTG turbochargers adjust to optimize airflow and power boost over a wider rpm range. The result delivers 1,770 ft.-lb. of torque at a lower engine speed of 1,100 rpm.
“The key to this solution is a drivetrain that drives both axles independently,” says Josh Keeney, tactical marketing manager at AGCO. “Unlike today’s conventional four-wheel-drive tractors that use a fixed torque ratio between the front and rear axle, AccuDrive employs variable four-wheel drive that distributes the torque independently over two transmission outputs on each axle. An intelligently controlled four-wheel clutch manages the torque, so it can be shifted between the axles according to need.
The tractors are created with a ballasting system to make them adaptable and ideal for row-crop work. The ballasting system has five interchangeable weight options ranging from 1,978 lb. to 7,275 lb.
With up to six double-acting valves at the rear, the Challenger 1000 Series tractors offer 58 gpm and 113.5 gpm hydraulic systems.
The four models are equipped with two types of Michelin tires, depending on application. For row-crop work, the Michelin Agribib 480/95R50 rear duals have a diameter of 85.6” and rolling circumference of 255.3”. For heavy draft work, the Michelin Axiobib 750/75R46 IF (Increased Flexion) features a 90” diameter, top speed of 40 mph, load capacity of 18,430 lb. with lower operating pressure to minimize soil compaction, and unique bead design that avoids slippage on the rim.
In the cab, the Tractor Management Center includes the Advantage armrest, 10.4” AccuTerminal, Advantage joystick, PTO controls, crossgate and keypad within reach of the operator’s fingertips.
The Challenger 1000 Series’ AccuTerminal fully integrates with AGCO’s suite of Fuse Technologies and Fuse Connected Services.

Massey Ferguson 5700 and 6700 Utility Tractors
Massey Ferguson expands its heavy-duty utility tractor lineup with the 5700 and 6700 Global Series. The tractors join Massey Ferguson’s recently introduced 4700 Series to round out the new Global Series. The MF5710 and MF5711 are 100-hp and 110-hp tractors, while the MF6712 and MF6713 provide 120 hp and 130 hp, respectively.
The 5700 Series equipped with four-wheel drive weighs in at 9,840 lb. with a cab and features a three-point lift capacity of 7,716 lb. full-stroke at 24” and maximum lift capacity of 8,664 lb. at 24”. The 6700 Series four-wheel-drive tractors with a cab weigh 10,392 lb. and have lift capacity of 9,392 full stroke at 24” with a maximum lift of 10,582 lb. at 24”.
Both the 5700 and 6700 Series feature AGCO Power 4.4-liter 4-cylinder Tier-4 Final compliant diesel engines with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emission system. All models are available with a 12Fx12R two-range Power-Shuttle with electrohydraulic shuttle lever.
The 5700 and 6700 tractors are open center, dual pump machines with 25.9 gpm total flow to the rear hydraulic remotes. The tractors are equipped with a standard 540/1,000 PTO, including an optional energy-saving mode on the 540 system.
The Global Series utility tractors leverage extensive customer research and are the result of the largest single manufacturing and new product project in AGCO’s history. For the North American market, the Global Series tractors are manufactured in Changzhou in China, AGCO’s newest manufacturing facility.

Massey Ferguson 6700S Series Mid-Range Tractors
Massey Ferguson recently introduced the three-model 6700S Series—the largest, most fully equipped mid-range Massey Ferguson tractors offered. With maximum engine horsepower ratings of 140, 150 and 160 and three transmission options, the tractors are suited for livestock and smaller row-crop operations. Models include the MF6714S, MF6715S and MF6716S.
The 6700S Series tractors boast a base weight of 15,432 lb. and maximum lift capacity of 5,032 lb. at the pivot pin.
The Massey Ferguson 6700S Series tractors are powered with a 4.9-liter AGCO Power 4-cylinder diesel engine meeting EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). The engines breathe intercooled intake air provided by a new turbocharger equipped with an electronic wastegate, and are fed by a 29,000 psi fuel injection system. A new Vistronic engine-cooling fan automatically adjusts air flow through the radiator depending on operating conditions, a feature that also improves engine brake efficiency by 15% over previous models.
The transmission options, all available with Engine Power Management, are:
- The Dyna-VT, a true continuously-variable transmission with no clutch packs.
- The Dyna-6, 24F/24R Semi-Powershift with four ranges and six Powershifts per range.
- The standard Dyna-4, 16F/16R Semi-Powershift with four ranges and four Powershifts per range.
The 6700S Series uses a front axle with QuadLink suspension, fully adjustable from the cab. The linkage has 4.5” of travel and is controlled by a single hydraulic cylinder and accumulator mounted in the axle housing.
All models have 540/1,000 PTOs, and with the Dyna-VT transmission, up to four PTO options are available.
Cab suspension for the 6700S Series tractors includes regular mechanical suspension or an optional active mechanical system, which allows dampening forces to be increased from the cab, on-the-go up to 15% in the field and 30% on the road.
Ergonomically-designed cab controls coupled with a multi-function joystick ease tractor operation. The digital and analog center dash control display is 50% larger, brightly lit and multicolored.
