COLD SNAP:
GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. FROM THE GREAT PLAINS TO THE FLORIDA CITRUS BELT, TEETH ARE CHATTERING AND COLD WEATHER RECORDS ARE SHATTERING..AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.
DROUGHT MONITOR:
THE LACK OF SNOW COVER IS SHOWING-UP IN THE DROUGHT MONITOR. IT SHOWS ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS EXPANDING THROUGH THE DAKOTAS AND MOST OF MINNESOTA.
COLORADO SNOWPACK:
MEANWHILE THERE'S BETTER NEWS FOR SNOWPACK IN THE COLORADO ROCKIES. THAT SNOW SUPPLIES THE RUN-OFF INTO THE COLORADO RIVER WHICH IS A MAJOR WATER SOURCE IN THE SOUTHWEST. IT PROVIDES WATER TO SEVEN STATES AND MEXICO. THE LATEST MEASUREMENTS SHOW THE SNOWPACK IN WESTERN COLORADO IS 90=PERCENT OF THE LONG-TERM AVERAGE. FOR COMPARISON, THE SNOWPACK IN THE SIERRA NEVADA'S IS LESS THAN 50-PERCENT OF AVERAGE. AND AT SOME MEASURING LOCATIONS, THERE'S NO SNOW AT ALL.
CROP WATCH:
A GOOD INDICATOR OF JUST HOW COLD IT IS THIS WINTER IS TO LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF ICE ON THE GREAT LAKES. MIKE HOFFMAN HAS THE LATEST MEASUREMENTS IN CROPWATCH.
OUTLOOK FORUM ACREAGE ESTIMATES:
IN RESPONSE TO FALLING GRAIN PRICES, IT APPEARS U-S FARMERS WILL PLANT FEWER ACRES OF ALL THREE MAJOR GRAINS IN THE CURRENT MARKETING YEAR.
PROSPECTIVE PLANTING:
GRAIN TRADERS WILL BE WATCHING NEXT MONTH WHEN USDA RELEASES ITS PROSPECTIVE PLANTINGS REPORT ON MARCH 31ST.  THAT REPORT PROVIDES USDA'S FIRST SURVEY-BASED ESTIMATES OF FARMERS' PLANTING INTENTIONS FOR THE YEAR.
BSE UPDATE:
SOUTH KOREA SAYS IT'S STOPPING IMPORTS OF CANADIAN BEEF FOLLOWING THE DISCOVERY OF BSE IN A BEEF COW LAST WEEK.  THIS IS THE FIRST BSE CASE IN CANADA SINCE 2011.  ACCORDING TO REUTUERS, SOUTH KOREA IMPORTS ONE PERCENT OF ITS BEEF FROM CANADA.
DIETARY GUIDELINES:
MEANWHILE CATTLE AND LIVESTOCK GROUPS ARE UPSET OVER THE RELEASE OF NEWLY PROPOSED DIETARY GUIDELINES FROM USDA.
PORK CONSUMPTION HURT:
MEANWHILE, USDA SAYS PORK CONSUMPTION IS EXPECTED TO RISE SHARPLY IN 2015 AND 2016..AS CONSUMERS ARE RESPONDING TO A SLIGHT UPTICK IN PRODUCTION.
