PREVIEWING USDA'S BIG REPORTS. THE AG SECRETARY NOMINEE MOVES FORWARD. IN AGRIBUSINESS...CAN FALL  WEATHER PREDICT THE FUTURE.  KEN FERRIE SHARES ADVICE ON RUNNING A MULTI-HYBRID PLANTER. AND IT'S A  MILK OFF-- SEE REALITY GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH A VIRTUAL MILKING MACHINE IN  VERMONT. AGDAY-BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE DEPENDABLE, LONG LASTING CHEVY SILVERADO.

PRO FARMER PROFIT BRIEFING
GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WITHIN A MATTER OF HOURS, WE'LL SEE  WHICH WAY THE MARKET WILL MOVE AS THE AG DEPARTMENT RELEASES TWO OF  THE BIGGEST GRAIN REPORTS OF THE YEAR. USDA IS SET TO RELEASE THE 2017 PROSPECTIVE PLANTINGS REPORT AND THE  QUARTERLY GRAIN STOCKS REPORT AT ELEVEN O'CLOCK CENTRAL TIME. BOTH REPORTS CAN INFLUENCE GRAIN TRADERS. PRE-REPORT FORECASTS EXPECT TO SEE A FOUR MILLION ACRE INCREASE IN  SOYBEAN PLANTINGS. AND A DROP IN CORN ACRES.AND GRAIN STOCKS REPORT WILL SHOW HOW MUCH GRAIN FARMERS ARE STILL  HOLDING ONTO. AND THAT'S A HIGH NUMBER BECAUSE OF LOW PRICES. CHIP FLORY AND BRIAN GRETE FROM OUR PROFARMER TEAM LOOK AT THEIR  EXPECTIONS. "ONCE WE GET THESE REPORTS OUT OF THE WAY ONCE THERE ONCE THEY'RE BUILT INTO THE MARKET WHICH  I THINK IS GOING TO BE BY ELEVEN FIFTEEN CENTRAL TIME THIS MORNING WHAT WE FOCUS ON AFTER THAT  WELL. BARRING A SURPRISE I MEAN YOU KNOW PRETTY MONUMENTAL SURPRISE. I THINK THAT THEN WE  START TO YOU KNOW THOSE ARE BENCHMARKS THE PERSPECTIVE PLANTING SO WE START AT OR SUBTRACT  FROM THOSE LEVELS BASED ON PRICE ACTION. KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE PERSPECTIVE PLANS ARE AS OF  MARCH ONE IT 'S ALL YOU KNOW CONDITIONS OF ALREADY CHAIN. SINCE EARLY MARCH BUT PRICE ACTION  WEATHER INTO SPRING THOSE TYPES OF THINGS HOW'S IT ALL GOING TO SHAPE UP IN AND WHAT WILL WE  ACTUALLY GET PLANTED IN RELATION TO WHAT USDA SAID WE WOULD GET PLANTED AND THE WEATHER IS  GOING TO BE A VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE GOING FOR IT AND ADDING AND SUBTRACTING FROM THE CORN  ACRES BEAN ACRES IN THE SPRING WHEAT ACRES. I THINK TO A DEGREE BUT THAT WEATHER UP IN THE  NORTHERN PLAINS IS IT GOING TO BE A WETTER PATTERN UP AND LOOK WHAT 'S GOING ON RECENTLY DOWN AND IN ARKANSAS MISSOURI IS THAT GOING TO SHIFT A LITTLE BIT FURTHER NORTH. ALL OF THAT ALL OF THAT  OUTWEIGHS THESE MARCH THIRTY ONE NUMBERS ON ACRES I YOU KNOW I THINK SO ON AND THE OTHER  THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS WE'RE GONNA GET THE QUARTERLY STOCKS SO THAT'S GOING TO TELL US HOW  MUCH IS STILL STORED ON FARM AND IT 'S GONNA BE A BIG NUMBER FOR CORN I MEAN I DON'T THINK  THERE 'S ANY DOUBT ABOUT THAT WE'VE SEEN CORN MOVE OVER THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE TWENTY  SEVENTEEN CALENDAR YEAR THE SECOND QUARTER OF THAT THE TWENTY SIXTEEN SEVENTEEN MARKETING  YEAR BUT THEY'RE STILL GOING TO BE A LOT OF CORN STORED ON FARM AND THERE 'S GONNA BE A FAIR  AMOUNT OF SOYBEAN STILL STORED ON FARM ABSOLUTELY OK LET 'S SAY WE GET A BIG PRICE MOVE WHEN  THE REPORTS COME OUT THIS MORNING IS THAT PREDICTIVE OF FUTURE PRICE MOVEMENT IN THESE GRAINS WELL YOU'D LIKE TO THINK SO I MEAN THAT THE REPORTS ARE KIND OF BILLED AS SETTING THE STAGE FOR  THIS MEAN ALL THROUGH THE SPRING IN THAT TIMEFRAME STUDIES THAT THAT WE'VE DONE INDICATED IT 'S  PROBABLY ABOUT A FIFTY FIFTY PROPOSITION IN TERMS OF HOW THE MARK REACTS WILL THERE AN IMPACT  SHORT TERM SURE YOU KNOW THAT THE PRICE ACTION ON NO IT 'S A DAY LATER ON TODAY AFTER THE REPORT  IS GOING TO DETERMINE WHAT WE DO EARLY NEXT WEEK. BUT BEYOND THAT FOR THE MONTH AS A WHOLE  WHEN WE LOOK IN APRIL IT IS PROBABLY FIFTY FIFTY IN TERMS UP OR DOWN YEAH WE CAN FORGET A YEAR  AGO WE GOT A REALLY BEARISH BEAN ACREAGE ESTIMATE AND WE PUT IN A SIGNIFICANT LOW IN THAT  BEAN MARKET A YEAR AGO. RIGHT NOW WELL AND KEEP IN MIND THAT THE ONE FUNDAMENTAL THAT IS  OUT THERE IS THE MONTH OF FUND MONEY FLOW AND THAT IS WHATEVER THE FUND 'S ONE A DAY OFF THEY  GET ALL MOVE IN ONE DIRECTION HAS A BIG IMPACT ON MY OK SO TODAY 'S REPORTS VERY IMPORTANT NO  DOUBT ABOUT IT. BUT THEIR BENCHMARKS WE NEED TO SEE HOW THINGS CHANGE GOING FORWARD  EXACTLY FOR BRIAN GRETE. AND ALL THE EDITORS OF PRO FARMER IN CEDAR FALLS IOWA I'M CHIP FLORY.

PERDUE PENDING APPROVAL
AG SECRETARY NOMINEE SONNY PERDUE OFFICIALLY CLEARS HIS FIRST HURDLE  ON THE WAY TO SECURING THE TOP AG JOB. THE COMMITTEE APPROVING PERDUE SENDING HIS NOMINATION TO THE FULL  SENATE FOR A VOTE. THE BI-PARTISAN VOTE STARTS THE CLOCK AS LEADERS WORK TO SEE IF  PERDUE CAN GET HIS CONFIRMATION BEFORE THE SENATE LEAVES NEXT  THURSDAY FOR EASTER RECESS--IF NOT HE LIKELY WON'T BE SWORN IN UNTIL  THE END OF APRIL.

HOGS AND PIGS REPORT
THE NATION'S HOG HERD CONTINUES TO CLIMB, BUT IT APPEARS EXPANSION IS  SLOWING.  IN THE QUARTERLY HOGS AND PIGS REPORT OUT THURSDAY, USDA CONFIRMING  THE HERD IS EXPANDING, WITH INVENTORY OF ALL HOGS AND PIGS HITTING 71  MILLION HEAD, THAT'S UP 4 PERCENT FROM LAST YEAR, BUT DOWN 1 PERCENT  FROM WHEN USDA RELEASED THE LAST QUARTERLY REPORT IN DECEMBER.    BREAKING IT DOWN, BREEDING INVENTORY NUMBERS ARE ONE PERCENT ABOVE  A YEAR AGO AT JUST OVER 6 MILLION HEAD.  AND MARKET HOG NUMBERS REACHING 64 POINT 9 MILLION HEAD, UP 4 PERCENT  FROM LAST YEAR, BUT DOWN 1 PERCENT FROM LAST QUARTER.

MCDONALDS FRESH BEEF
ONE OF THE LARGEST BEEF BUYERS IN THE WORLD MCDONALDS ANNOUNCING A  MAJOR SHIFT IN ITS BUYING. THE ILLINOIS BASED COMPANY ANNOUNCING IT'S QUARTER POUNDER WILL BE  MADE WITH FRESH BEEF PATTIES STARTING NEXT YEAR. THE NATIONS LARGEST FAST FOOD CHAIN SAYS THE SHIFT FROM FROZEN BEEF  IS AN ANSWER TO THE RISING QUALITY DEMANDS CONSUMERS ARE LOOKING  FOR WHEN CHOOSING WHERE TO EAT. MCDONALD'S SAYS THEY DON'T ANTICIPATE A BIG PRICE IMPACT FROM MAKING  THE SWITCH.

DROUGHT MONITOR
THE LATEST DROUGHT MONITOR IS OUT AND IT SHOWS A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT  IN THE AMOUNT OF DROUGHT AND DRYNESS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. ABOUT A THIRD OF THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES IS NOW UNDER SOME FORM  OF DROUGHT OR DRYNESS. THAT'S JUST A TICK BETTER THAN LAST WEEK. OF COURSE LARGE PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND MIDWEST SAW RAIN THIS WEEK--WHICH ISN'T REFLECTED IN THIS MAP.

CROP COMMENTS
EVEN WITHOUT THE RAINS THIS WEEK, STATES LIKE MISSOURI SAW NEARLY A 20  POINT IMPROVEMENT IN DROUGHT.MIKE HOFFMAN IS BACK TODAY WITH A LOOK AT A FEW OF THOSE DROUGHT  AREAS GETTING A SPLASH OF RAIN THIS WEEK. GOOD MORNING CLINTON. YES MANY AREAS DEALING WITH DRY WEATHER DID GET RAIN THIS WEEK. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS PHOTO FROM TUCUMCARI NEW MEXICO. CLINTON'S FOLKS REPORTING THEY SAW ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 3 INCHES OF  RAIN.THIS IS THE FIRST TIME REAL PRECIPITATION THEY SEEN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. IT'S BEEN HOT AND WINDY. THEY HOPE THINGS START TO GREEN UP VERY SOON. ....AND NOW HERE ARE SOME HOMETOWN TEMPS. WITH MARKET PRICES CONSTANTLY CHANGING, IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE CURRENT PRICES  STAND. FLOOR OF THE CME
IN AGRIBUSINESS LETS SEE HOW MARKETS MOVED ON THURSDAY FROM OUR  FRIENDS AT THE CME. WE'VE KIND OF SEEN THE GRAINS STALL OUT A LITTLE BIT HERE IN THE  AFTERNOON SESSION AHEAD OF TOMORROW'S BIG QUARTERLY STOCKS AND  PROSPECTIVE PLANTINGS REPORT FOR THE MAY CORN CONTRACT BIG SUPPORT  3.49 TO 3.52 THIS IS PSYCHOLOGICALLY SIGNIFICANT AS WELL AS THE LOWS  FROM DECEMBER SO BULLS NEED TO MAINTAIN A CLOSE ABOVE THIS TO ROUND  OUT THE WEEK NOW ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND WITH THIS REPORT IS IT WILL  EQUAL VOLATILITY VOLATILITY OFTEN TIMES EQUALS A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY  NOW LAST YEAR WE DID BOTTOM AFTER THIS REPORT AND ENDED UP TRADING  ABOUT 40 CENTS HIGHER SO I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE US TRADE  LOWER INFLICT THE PAINS ON THE WEAK LONGS AND THEN REBOUND FROM  THERE GOING FORWARD AS FAR AS THE WHEAT'S CONCERNED WHEAT HANGING  RELATIVELY WELL BUT STILL THE BEARS REMAIN IN CONTROL 4.15 4.17 KEY  TECHNICAL SUPPORT IF THAT GOES AWAY WE COULD ACCELERATED SELLING  PRESSURE REALLY PRESSES DOWN TOWARDS THAT 4 EVEN HANDLE AND MAYBE  EVEN BELOW BUT IF CORN AND BEANS STABILIZE THAT WILL LIKELY LEAD TO  SOME SUPPORT IN THE WHEAT MARKET IT'S BEEN OLIVER SLOUP WITH II TRADER  FROM THE FLOOR OF THE CME.

AGRIBUSINESS
SUE MARTIN WITH AG AND INVESTMENT SERVICES OUR GUEST HERE AT THE AGRIBUSINESS DESK TODAY  SUE I ALWAYS APPRECIATE HOW WELL THAT YOU LOOK BEYOND JUST ONE YEAR AND BRING IN MULTIPLE  YEARS OF PERSPECTIVE YOU AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT WEATHER AND YOU SAY THERE ARE SOME  THINGS TO WATCH AS FAR AS WEATHER TRENDS MAY BE FROM SOME OTHER YEARS THAT 'S TRUE ONE OF  THEM WAS IN IN BACK IN DECEMBER I HAD TO SPEAK FOR THE SOUTH DAKOTA SOYBEAN ASSOCIATION  AND THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS I CAME UP WITH BEFORE I WENT TO SPEAK. I THOUGHT THIS IS COOL  IT'S IN SIOUX FALLS. YOU KNOW THIS WILL BE NEAT. BUT SINCE NIGHT WELL TAKING FROM NINETEEN TWENTY  NINE SIOUX FALLS SOUTH DAKOTA IN THE FALL HAD A RECORD AMOUNT OF RAINFALL THE NEXT YEAR IN  NINETEEN THIRTY. THE YIELD 'S TALKING ABOUT YIELDS NOT PRODUCTIONS. S YIELDS YIELDS FELL TWENTY  PERCENT. THEN IN NINETEEN SEVENTY THREE THAT A CITY THAT SIOUX FALLS SOUTH DAKOTA OR AGAIN HIT  RECORD RAINFALL AND SET A NEW RECORD AND ONCE AGAIN THE NEXT YEAR THE CORN YIELD FELL TWENTY  ONE PERCENT SAYING SOUTH DAKOTA CORN YIELD A NATIONAL NATIONAL NATIONAL CORN NATIONALS CORN  YIELD THEN IN NINETEEN EIGHTY TWO THAT WAS THE NEXT TIME THEY SET A RECORD RAINFALL AND ONCE  AGAIN IN NINETEEN EIGHTY THREE THE CORN YIELDS FELL TWENTY EIGHT PERCENT SO IT 'S KIND OF  INTERESTING BECAUSE THIS LAST FALL SIOUX FALLS SOUTH DAKOTA HAD RECORD RAINFALL I THINK THE RAINFALL WAS AROUND TWELVE POINT SIX INCHES OF RAIN SO WE'LL SEE DOESN'T HAPPEN A FOURTH TIME BUT IT CERTAINLY HAS A GOOD HISTORY BEHIND IT WHY IT HAPPENS I HAVE NO CLOSE BUT UM I THINK THAT  WE'VE GOT SOME POTENTIAL WERE COMING IN THERE 'S CERTAIN AREAS THAT ARE GETTING DRY YOU KNOW  JUST BEFORE THE SHOW WE WERE TALKING ABOUT HOW YOU KNOW IT 'S SO DRY HERE IN INDIANA ARE IN  OHIO YOU KNOW KIND OF NEEDS TO BE WATCHED MISSOURI IS A STATE THAT 'S GONNA BE VERY DRY AND  THEY'VE HAD SOME GOOD YEARS HERE I'M A LITTLE CONCERNED FOR THE STATE OF MISSOURI NOT TO  MENTION KANSAS RIGHT SO SOME WEATHER THINGS OF THE WATCH. AND AS WE HAD THROUGH THIS YEAR  COULD BE AN ABSOLUTELY I THINK IT IS ONE YEAR AND YOU KNOW THAT 'S ANOTHER THING TOO. WE HAVE  NOT HAD AND THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OFF THE CUFF BUT WE'VE NOT HAD ON. IF I TAKE COARSE GRAINS AND  CORN AND I TAKE THE LARGER CARRY OUTS EACH YEAR FOR THE TWO COMBINED IN THE U S COMMINGLED  WITH LARGER CARRY OUTS IN THE IN THE WORLD IT 'S INTERESTING THERE HAVE BEEN YOU KNOW USUALLY BY  YEAR FIVE OF THAT CONSISTENCY WHICH WERE IN TWO YEAR SIX AND THERE HAS BEEN IN THE PAST I THINK THERE 'S AT LEAST THREE SINCE NINETEEN SIXTIES IF NOT FOUR BUT WHAT 'S INTERESTING IS YEAR  FIVE WHICH WAS LIKE LAST YEAR YOU GOT A RALLY IN THE GRAIN PRICES YEAR SIX YOU TEND TO RALLY ALSO  AND THE HIGHS TEND TO BE AROUND JUNE TO JULY ALRIGHT WE'LL BE WATCHING FOR IT SUE THANK YOU SO  MUCH FOR THE PERSPECTIVE WE'LL BE BACK WITH MORE AGDAY IN JUST A MINUTE. WEATHER
WELCOME BACK TO AGDAY METEOROLOGIST MIKE HOFFMAN MIKE WE LOOK AT THIS DROUGHT MONITOR  WE KNOW THAT THERE COULD BE SOME IMPROVEMENTS COMING BASED ON THE RAINS WITH THAT OF LAST  WEEK A CITY I THINK THERE WILL BEAND I THINK THERE WILL BE EVEN MORE BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE  STORM SYSTEMS COMING WHICH IS SOME GOOD NEWS FOR THESE DRY AREAS BUT IT TAKES A LONG TIME  TO GET OUT FROM UNDER A LONG TERM DROUGHT AND THE YOU CAN SEE THE POCKETS ESPECIALLY  NORTHERN GEORGIA SUMMER IS IN THE PANHANDLE OF OKLAHOMA SOME OF THE WORST AREAS GOING  BACK A MONTH THE YOU CAN SEE OVERALL IT WAS A SMALLER AREA MONTH AGO BUT AS FAR AS THE DRY  AREAS BUT AS SOME OF THE EXTREME SITUATIONS HAVE IMPROVED SLIGHTLY SO KIND OF DEPENDS ON  EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT AVERAGE AGENCY ONE WEEK AGO WE WERE STILL LOOKING AT THESE  POCKETS BUT THAT 'S EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT AREAS THEY'RE KIND OF DIMINISHES IN NORTHERN GEORGIA  AND SOME OF THE SURROUNDING AREAS BUT THAT THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF OKLAHOMA 'S GOT A LITTLE  WORSE BUT AGAIN THESE WILL CHANGE I THINK FOR THE MOST PART FOR THE BETTER OVER THE NEXT COUPLE  WEEKS HERE 'S THE A WEATHER MAP THIS MORNING COUPLE AREAS OF LOW PRESSURE IN THE EAST THIS  HAS BEEN THE SYSTEM PRODUCING ALL THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. IN SOME CASES TORNADOES AS IT  MOVED FROM WEST TO EAST OVER THE LAST FOUR DAYS. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE SOME VERY  HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS. MAYBE SOME SEVERE WEATHER BEFORE IT HEADS OFF SHORE. BUT AT THIS IS  GOING TO BE A SITUATION WHERE THE WORST TIME OF DAY ACTUALLY OCCURS ONCE A LOT OF THESE  STORMS ARE OUT IN THE ATLANTIC SO THAT SO SOME GOOD NEWS BUT YOU CAN SEE SOME SNOW IN THE  NORTHERN FRINGE OF THE SYSTEM HERE 'S THE NEXT STORM SYSTEM AND ONE MORE COMING INTO THE  PACIFIC NORTHWEST. YOU CAN SEE WITH THIS ONE KIND OF DIVING THROUGH THE PAN HANDLE OF TEXAS.  ONCE AGAIN WE'RE GONNA SEE SOME MORE RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW IN THAT AREA. THE SYSTEM IN  THE NORTHEAST TOMORROW MORNING STILL ONGOING WITH SNOW IN MUCH OF NEW ENGLAND BELIEVE IT OR  NOT A HEAVY WET SNOW AND EVEN BY LIGHT MIDDAY TOMORROW STILL GOING TO BE SNOWING AND PARTS  OF MAINE AND EASTERN NEW ENGLAND. THIS WILL BE A SYSTEM THAT STARTS TO GET MORE. GULF  MOISTURE INTO IT. BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON AND SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. DEVELOPING OUT  AHEAD OF IT WIDESPREAD RAINS ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS AHEAD OF THE STORM SYSTEM AS WELL  TAKE A LOOK AT THE PRECIPITATION ESTIMATES OVER THE PAST TWENTY FOUR HOURS MOST OF IT 'S BEEN IN THE EAST AND WITH THAT SYSTEM OUT WEST WE ADD IN THE NEXT THIRTY SIX AND THERES STILL A SOAKING  RAIN GONNA HAPPEN IN THE MANY PARTS OF THE EAST AND WE'RE GONNA JUST START TO SEE SOME OF THE HEAVIER ACTIVITY GETTING INTO THE PLAIN STATES ONCE AGAIN SNOWFALL MAINLY IN THE ROCKIES OUT  WEST HOWEVER HEAVY AMOUNTS IN PARTS OF NEW ENGLAND AS YOU CAN SEE RIGHT THERE  TEMPERATURES WILL BE WARM ALONG THE GULF COAST PLEASANTLY COOL FARTHER NORTH IN SEE LOTS OF  FORTIES AND FIFTIES ACROSS THE CORN BELT LOWS IN THE THIRTIES CORN BELT IN MY FIFTIES AND SIXTIES  ALONG THE GULF COAST AND WARMS UP EVEN A LITTLE BIT MORE EASTERN TEXAS INTO THE SOUTHERN  MISSISSIPPI VALLEY BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON HERE 'S THE JET STREAM AND YOU CAN SEE THE FIRST  BOWLING BALL STORM SYSTEM MOVING EAST THERE 'S THE NEXT ONE COMING ACROSS THE PLAINS STATES  THAT CONTINUES TO MOVE EAST LOOKS WHAT LOOK WHAT THE MODELS DO ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM  COMING INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK THAT'S A LOOK ACROSS THE COUNTRY NOW LETS TAKE A LOOK AT SOME LOCAL FORECASTS FIRST WE'LL HEAD OUT TO ELKO NEVADA  BREEZY THERE WERE TIMES OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE HIGH OF FIFTY FOUR DEGREES SPENCER IOWA A  VARIABLY CLOUDY WITH SOME SUNSHINE AT TIMES HIGH OF FIFTY AND GREENFIELD MASSACHUSETTS  CLOUDY WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW AND RAIN AT TIMES HIGHER AROUND THIRTY SIX  THANKS MIKE.

GROWING POTATOES ON MARS
FROM OUR AG-TECH FILE...SCIENTISTS IN PERU ARE MIMICKING THE HARSH  CONDITIONS FOUND ON MARS TO SEE IF YOU CAN GROW POTATOES?  SOUND  FAMILIAR? ACTOR MATT DAMON DID THE SAME THING IN THE MOVIE 'THE  MARTIAN'. THIS EXPERIMENT STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AFTER THAT MOVIE. PERUVIAN SCIENTISTS BUILT A SIMULATOR - A 'MARS-IN-A-BOX'-SO TO SPEAK.  THEY REPLICATE BELOW-ZERO TEMPERATURES, HIGH CARBON MONOXIDE  CONCENTRATIONS, THE AIR PRESSURE FOUND AT 20-THOUSAND FEET, AND A  SYSTEM OF LIGHTS IMITATING THE MARTIAN DAY AND NIGHT. THOUGH STILL IN EARLY STAGES, INVESTIGATORS AT THE INTERNATIONAL  POTATO CENTER BELIEVE THE INITIAL RESULTS ARE A PROMISING.

TEASE
WELL IF YOU LIKE AGRONOMY HERE ON EARTH, STICK WITH US, KEN FERRIE JOINS US NEXT TO TALK MULTI-HYBRID PLANTERS AND A FEW KEYS TO SUCCESS. THESE JERSEYS ARE IN FOR QUITE A SURPRISE BECAUSE OF THE TECHNOLOGY  NOW AVAILABLE FOR MILKING. DETAILS WHEN WE HEAD IN THE COUNTRY.

FARM JOURNAL COLLEGE
THE CONCEPT OF USING MULTIPLE HYBRIDS ON THE SAME CORN PLANTER IS  RELATIVELY NEW. AND AS KEN FERRY EXPLAINS, IF YOU'RE MAKING THE SWITCH--THERE ARE SOME  IMPORTANT CONCEPTS TO REMEMBER. WITH TODAY 'S TECHNOLOGY WHILE WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE  ABILITY TO DO A LOT OF AMAZING THINGS THERE 'S ALSO THAT AREA WHERE WE  CAN CAUSE SOME BIG MISTAKES AND THOSE MISTAKES CAN BE PRETTY COSTLY  NOW I JUST AS WE TALK ABOUT MULTI HYBRID REALIZE THAT WE CAN CHANGE  POPULATION BY THE ROW HYBRID BY THE ROW BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE  THAT YOU FOLLOW YOUR PLAN IF YOUR SEED SUPPLIER IS WRITTEN IN THE PLAN  AND BUILT THE MAP FOR YOU THEN FOR INSTANCE YOU'RE GONNA PUT SEED IN  THE LEFT TANK SEED IN THE RIGHT TANK IN A PLANNER 'S GONNA DO  EVERYTHING FOR YOU BUT IF THE GUY LOADING THE PLANTER MISTAKENLY PUT THE SEED IN THE WRONG TANK OR THE PERSON LOADING THE MONITOR MARKS THE TANK 'S WRONG AND WE HAVE THE WRONG SEED IN THE WRONG TANK WE  GO THROUGH THE FIELD AS WE WOULD HEAR THIS IS AN UPRIGHT HYBRID THAT'S BEING PLANTED ON A VERY LIGHT SOIL AT A VERY HIGH POPULATION AND WE  HAVE A PROBLEM THERE BECAUSE IF YOU'RE GONNA PUT A PENDULUM HYBRID  WITH A FLEX EAR ON YEAR THE HIGH GROUND WITH LOW WATER HOLDING  CAPACITY AND YOU'RE GONNA PUT IT UP RIGHT AT A HIGH POPULATION IN YOUR  LOW GROUND AND NOW YOU TURN AROUND AND YOU SWITCH THAT YOU NOT  ONLY MADE YOUR PROBLEM WORSE THAN YOU WERE BUT YOU CAN IT NOT  EXPLODED AND OUTERS KICKED IT OUT OVER A BIGGER SITUATION NOW WE'RE  GONNA CAUSE A LOT OF STRESS.

TEASE
IF YOU'RE PROFICIENT AT MILKING COWS.....DOES THAT MEAN YOU'LL BE A  CHAMPION VIDEO GAMER? THE ANSWER WHEN WE COME BACK.

IN THE COUNTRY
IN THE COUNTRY - BROUGHT TO YOU BY KUBOTA.  CHECK OUT KUBOTA'S RTV- X-1140, A RUGGED UTILITY VEHICLE WITH SEATING FOR FOUR.  SYOP BY YOUR  LOCAL DEALER TODAY, OR VISIT KUBOTA.COM.  OVER THE YEARS, WE'VE SEEN "MAN VERSUS MACHINE" CHALLENGES - LIKE IN  1996 WHEN WORLD CHESS CHAMP GARRY KASPAROV TOOK ON IBM'S "BIG BLUE".  WELL A VERMONT DAIRY FARMER WANTED TO SHOW HOW HER COW-MILKING  SKILLS COULD COMPETE AGAINST A NEW VIDEO GAME  THAT SIMULATES THE JOB.   AND NINTENDO ACCEPTED. DAVID YOUNG AND TIM KWONG TOOK-UP THE NINTENDO-ONE-TWO SWITCH  SHOWDOWN AT BILLINGS FARM AND MUSEUM WITH A MISSION IN MIND. "AS A GAMER I'VE NEVER BEEN ON TO BACK DOWN FROM A  CHALLANGE SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE IN VERMONT.THE CHALLENGER WAS READY.... "WE'VE SPENT OUR WHOLE LIVES MILKING COWS AND WE WANTED  TO SHOW NINTENDO WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT" BEFORE THEY GOT DOWN TO GAMING....THE BOYS GOT A LIFE LESSON ON THE  FARM..."YOU READY? SURE WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG TAKING THE JERSEYS OUT OF THE EQUATION.....WOULD ALAYNA POSSESS THE  SKILLS TO DEFEAT THOSE NINTENDO GAMERS WITH THEIR MILK-MIMICKING- MOTIONS? WE'VE SPENT OUR WHOLE LIVES MILKING COWS AND WE WANTED  TO SHOW NINTENDO WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT AND BEAT THEM AT THEIR OWN  GAME.AFTER BATTLING IT OUT WITH THE JOY-CON CONTROLLERS....THE GAMERS GOT  THE UPPER HAND.... SO THE 1 2 SWITCH MILK CHALLENGE HAS ENDED AND YOU KNOW  NINTENDO WON IT WAS GREAT I WAS A LITTLE CONCERNED BECAUSE IN  PRACTICE ALAYNA DID AMAZING. DEFEATED BUT NOT DESPONDENT. WE WANT TO THANK NINTENDO SO MUCH FOR COMING OUT TO  VERMONT IT WAS HUGE FOR THEM TO COME OUT HERE AT SEE US.  THE GAME CONTROLLERS INCLUDE A "RUMBLE" TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE THE  MOTION MORE LIFE-LIKE....I GUESS. BILLINGS FARM AND MUSEUM IS A LIVING HISTORY FARM WHICH INCLUDES THE  FULLY-OPERATING JERSEY DAIRY FARM.

CLOSE
THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE HAVE THIS MORNING. WE'RE GLAD YOU TUNED IN.  FOR MIKE HOFFMAN, AND ALL OF US AT AGDAY. I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
