HEADLINES
WHAT'S THE FUTURE FOR TRADE RELATIONS WITH AMERICA'S CLOSEST  NEIGHBORS?  "I'M MICHELLE ROOK.  THE PRESIDENT SAYS HE'LL RENEGOTIATE NAFTA.  WHAT  WOULD MAKE IT A BETTER DEAL FOR AGRICULTURE?  WE'LL FIND OUT TODAY ON AGDAY. " MEET AN  ILLINOIS FARMER DOING HIS BEST TO STAY IN BUSINESS. IN AGRIBUSINESS..  LOOKING AHEAD.. MACHINERY PETE HAS A TIP FOR HIGHER SELL PRICES AT  AUCTION. AND SHOOTING FOR PERFECTION IN LOUISIANA. AGDAY-BROUGHT TO  YOU BY THE DEPENDABLE, LONG LASTING CHEVY SILVERADO.

MEXICO IMPORTING U.S. PORK
GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WITH THE NORTH AMERICAN FREE  TRADE AGREEMENT STILL IN PLACE, MEXICO CONTINUES TO BUY PLENTY OF  PORK FROM THE U-S. IN FACT MEXICO'S CONSUMPTION IS ONE REASON PORK  EXPORTS SET A NEW HIGH IN MARCH. THE U-S MEAT EXPORT FEDERATION SAYS TOTAL PORK EXPORTS IN MARCH  WERE 16-PERCENT ABOVE YEAR-AGO LEVELS. SHIPMENTS TOTALLED JUST UNDER 228-THOUSAND METRIC TONS. PORK VOLUMES TO MEXICO ARE 34-PERCENT ABOVE MARCH OF 2016. NOW TO BEEF - TOTAL EXPORTS TOTALLED 105-THOUSAND METRIC TONS. THAT'S  18-PERCENT OVER A YEAR AGO.

U.S. BEEF IN BRAZIL
AGRICULTURE SECRETARY PERDUE ALSO TOUTING THE FIRST SHIPMENT OF  FRESH U.S. BEEF ARRIVING IN BRAZIL FOLLOWING A 13-YEAR HIATUS.  BRAZIL CLOSED ITS MARKET TO IMPORTS OF U.S. FRESH BEEF IN 2003 OVER  CONCERNS ABOUT BSE.  PERDUE SAYS GETTING AMERICAN BEEF BACK INTO THE BRAZILIAN MARKET  USHERS IN PROMISING LONG TERM OPPORTUNITIES FOR U.S. PRODUCERS.

WHAT NAFTA RENEGOTIATIONS MEAN
TRADE CONTINUES TO BE A MAJOR FOCUS FOR THE NEW ADMINISTRATION. THAT WILL BE A CHALLENGING TASK AS THE WHITE HOUSE TARGETS NAFTA--AND  TWO OF AGRICULTURE'S BIGGEST CUSTOMERS...FOR FRESH NEGOTIATIONS.  SO WHAT WILL RENEGOTIATIONS MEAN? MICHELLE ROOK TRAVELED TO D.C. TO FIND OUT.  MICHELLE STANDUP – PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS DECIDED TO RENEGOTIATE RATHER THAN WITHDRAW  FROM NAFTA, MUCH TO THE RELIEF OF FARM GROUPS.  BUT HOW DOES THE U.S. GET A BETTER DEAL FOR  AGRICULTURE? FOR MANY SECTORS OF AGRICULTURE THEY DON'T BELIEVE THEY CAN RENEGOTIATE A BETTER TRADE  AGREEMENT BECAUSE MEXICO AND CANADA ARE TOP EXPORT CUSTOMERS FOR MANY U.S. AG  PRODUCTS.DAVE WARNER, NATIONAL PORK PRODUCERS COUNCIL, "WE GOT EVERYTHING WE WANT OUT OF  NAFTA SO WE JUST WANT TO MAINTAIN OUR ZERO TARIFFS ON PORK TRADE IN NORTH AMERICA." COLIN WOODALL, NATIONAL CATTLEMEN'S BEEF ASSOCIATION, "WHEN IT COMES TO CATTLE AND  BEEF WE WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE.  IT WORKS, IT WORKS WELL AND BECAUSE OF NAFTA WE HAVE TWO $1  BILLION MARKETS BOTH TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH."    ALAN TRACY, U.S. WHEAT ASSOCIATES, "NAFTA REALLY OPENED THE DOOR FOR WHEAT IN MEXICO.  THEY HAD A LOT OF RESTRICTIONS BEFORE.  THEY DROPPED THEIR TARIFF IT GRADUALLY DECLINED  TO ZERO.  ITS BECOME OUR NUMBER ONE MARKET."  MEXICO IS ALSO THE TOP MARKET FOR U.S. CORN, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME TWEAKS TO NAFTA THE  FEED GRAIN INDUSTRY WOULD SUPPORT.      TOM SLEIGHT, U.S. GRAINS COUNCIL, "YOU KNOW PHYTOSANITARY, SANITARY BARRIERS, AGAIN THE  BARRIERS FOR ENTRY FOR THINGS LIKE WHEAT SEED THINGS LIKE THAT, PROTOCOLS.  THOSE ARE REALLY  IMPORTANT AND OF COURSE SOUND FOUNDATION FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY." THERE'S ALSO A FEAR IF THE PRESIDENT TRIES TO FIX THE TRADE DEFICIT FOR OTHER PRODUCTS, AGRICULTURE WILL LOSE GROUND.ROGER JOHNSON, NATIONAL FARMERS UNION, "UNFORTUNATELY, THE WAY HE'S GOING ABOUT IT I  WORRY THAT WE'RE GONNA LOSE SOME OF THE EXPORTS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE IN AGRICULTURE BOTH TO  CANADA AND MEXICO."  HOWEVER, THE COMMODITY THAT MIGHT BENEFIT THE MOST FROM RENEGOTIATING NAFTA IS DAIRY DUE  TO CANADA'S NEW PRICING STRATEGY.    CHRIS GALEN, NATIONAL MILK PRODUCERS FEDERATION, "TO NOT ONLY CUT OFF EXPORTS FROM THE  U.S., WHAT LITTLE EXPORTS WE HAVE, BUT ALSO MORE IMPORTANTLY THEY WANT TO DUMP THEIR SKIM  MILK PROTEINS IN EXPORT MARKETS AROUND THE WORLD WHERE IT WILL COMPETE WITH U.S. EXPORTS."   MN CONGRESSMAN COLLIN PETERSON, HOUSE AG RANKING MEMBER, "WE COMPLETELY GAVE  UP POWER OVER THE CANADIANS WHATSOEVER IN NAFTA.  WE GAVE THEM COMPLETE AUTONOMY OF  THEIR SUPPLY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN DAIRY AND POULTRY."  RAY STARLING, AG LIASON TO THE WHITE HOUSE AGREES POLICY ON DAIRY, POULTRY AND FRUITS AND  VEGETABLES COULD BE IMPROVED, IN ADDITION TO….  RAY STARLING, SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT FOR AGRICULTURE, TRADE AND FOOD  ASSISTANCE, "IT'S NOT JUST IN THE NUMBERS WE SELL OR WHAT COMES IN.  SOME OF IT COMES DOWN  TO HOW QUICKLY DO WE RESOLVE DISPUTES WHEN WE HAVE A DISPUTE?"  HOWEVER, HE SAYS THE THEY REALIZE NAFTA HAS BEEN GOOD FOR AGRICULTURE AND THAT WILL SHAPE  THEIR NEGOTIATIONS.      STARLING, "KEEPING WHAT WE HAVE PARTICULARLY AS IT RELATES TO AGRICULTURE AND THEN IMPROVING  UPON IT." IN WASHINGTON D.C. I'M MICHELLE ROOK REPORTING FOR AGDAY .

CHEMCHINA-SYNGENTA MERGER
THE MERGER BETWEEN SYNGENTA AND CHEMCHINA CONTINUES TO MARCH  FORWARD. SHAREHOLDERS OF SYNGENTA NOW GETTING ON BOARD AND SUPPORTING THE  ASKING PRICE OF 465 DOLLARS PER SHARE. THE DEAL IS SET TO CLOSE THIS MONTH...AND IS CHINA'S BIGGEST FOREIGN  TAKEOVER OF A COMPANY EVER.

CROP ESTIMATES
INITIAL CROP ESTIMATES ARE STARTING TO COME-OUT FROM ONE OF THE  HARDEST HIT STATES BY LAST WEEKS FLOOD. THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS DIVISION OF AG ESTIMATES 937-THOUSAND  ACRES OF ARKANSAS CROPLAND WERE HIT BY FLOOD WATER. THE EARLY ESTIMATES PUT LOSSES AT 64-MILLION DOLLARS. THE COLORED AREAS ON THIS MAP SHOW ARKANSAS COUNTIES THAT WERE HIT HARD. ONE COUNTY IN PARTICULAR - POINSETT COUNTY WHICH IS HIGHLIGHTED  IN RED - HAD 340-THOUSAND ACRES AFFECTED BY RAIN AND FLOODING.

URBAN SPRAWL
AS LARGE CITIES, LIKE CHICAGO, SPREAD THEIR SUBURBS FARTHER AND  FARTHER OUT, RURAL AREAS OFTEN GET SWALLOWED-UP. WE RECENTLY CAUGHT UP WITH A FARMER WHO LIVES ABOUT 45 MILES  SOUTHWEST OF CHICAGO. MANHATTAN, ILLINOIS IS THAT DIVIDE - WHERE CITY MEETS COUNTRY. JOHN KIEFNER STILL FARMS - BUT HE'S TAKING A DIFFERENT APPROACH. BETSY JIBBEN HAS THE STORY. WHEN IT COMES TO FARMING, JOHN KIEFNER PREFERS THE BASICS.  SEVERAL  PEOPLE HAVE SAID WHEN THEY SEE ME ALL BUNDLED UP ' DON'T YOU HAVE A CAB  TRACTOR?' I SAID: I DON'T NEED 120 HORSE POWER TO PULL THIS.  IT DOESN'T  MATTER IF HE HAS  GPS, "I'M A LITTLE OLD SCHOOL." RADAR, OR MONITOR.. AN  INCH AND THREE QUARTERS, I MAY WANT IT A LITTLE DEEPER, HE BELIEVES BEING OLD SCCHOOL IS HELPING PROTECT FUTURE PROFITS. I'VE ELIMINATED A  LOT OF TRIPS ACROSS THE FIELD,  A LOT OF TILLAGE, A LOT OF MACHINERY BILLS, FUEL BILLS AND I DON'T FEEL I'VE GIVEN UP ANYTHING IN YIELD. IN A TIME WHEN  FARMERS WERE GETTING LARGER/BIGGER EQUIPMENT, HE GOT SMALLER- JUST  LIKE HIS ACREAGE.THE SUBURBS OF CHICAGO HAVE BEEN GROWING. I'VE GONE  FROM 12 HUNDRED ACRES TO ONLY 700. THAT'S A CHANGE HE'S ADJUSTING TO  ALONG WITH  HIS ROTATIONS – NOW  PLANTING HALF FOF HIS ACRES INTO NON  GMO, WELL I HAVE TO SWITCH MY CORN, I JUST GOT OUT OF A NON-GMO FIELD.  MOSTLY BECAUSE THE ELEVATOR NEARBY IS GIVING HIM A PREMIUM. BUT EVEN THOSE PAYMENTS ARE DROPPING.PREMIUMS COMING DOWN: I GOT 2 DOLLAR A  BUSHEL FOR MY SOYBEANS A COUPLE YEARS AGO. THEN IT WENT TO 1.50 AND  NOW IT'S 1.25.   11 BUT I CAN SAY THIS, LAST YEAR MY ONE FIELD OF NON  YIELDED 69 BPA FOR BEANS , THE BEST I HAD AND I GOT 1.50 PREMIUM ON IT SO  I'M NOT CRYING. 25 YOU COULD SAY I CRIED ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. WHILE HE  MAY NOT BE LIKE ALL OTHER FARMERS – HE  STILL FACES THE SAME WEATHER  CHALLENGES- LIKE THE RECENT HEAVY RAINS .  HIS AREAS RECEIVED ROUGHLY 4  INCHES OF RAIN IN ONE WEEK – THE REGION IS SATURATED BUT KEIFER SAYS IT  COULD BE WORSE. HE SEEMED LIKE THERE WERE MORE THAN A FEW PEOPLE  WHEN WE GOT HOT AND DRY A MONTH AGO WHO TRIED TO DRAW COMPARISONS  TO 2012. SO FAR THAT HASN'T PANNED OUT. NO MATTER THE WEATHER,A MAN  WHO APPRECIATES THE UNWRITTEN RULES OF FARMING. IF YOU DON'T KEEP  SOME CORN WITH YOU IN THE PLANTER, YOU ALWAYS RUN OUT AT THE BACK OF  THE FIELD. MURPHEY'S LAW. AND BELIEVES IN THE BASICS."I'M REALLY JUST  CHEAP,"WILL KEEP RIGHT ON FARMING HIS WAY. REPORTING FOR AGDAY, I'M  BETSY JIBBEN. THANKS BETSY. KIEFNER  SAYS HE'S STICKING WITH HIS ROTATIONS WHICH IS  HEAVY CORN THIS YEAR. IDEALLY, HE WANTS TO HAVE MORE HAY.

CROP COMMENTS
SO MUCH WEATHER TO DISCUSS, MIKE HOFFMAN HAS A FLOOD OF PHOTOS FOR  TODAY'S CROP COMMENTS.GOOD MORNING CLINTON. A FARMER FROM  SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA SENT THIS PHOTO WHICH SHOWS  JUST HOW TOLERANT CORN SEED CAN BE. RANDY UHRMACHER SAYS THIS CORN SEEDLING IS "COMING BACK FROM THE  DEAD" AFTER GETTING HIT WITH FROST AND SNOW. AND JOE THOMPSON FROM T-N-T FARMS IN PAULS VALLEY OKLAHOMA SAYS  THEY'RE FINALLY GETTING A BREAK IN THE WEATHER. THEY'VE STARTED A  SECOND CUTTING.  HEAVY DEW PREVENTED THEM FROM STARTING UNTIL TEN.  BUT BY DAY'S END THEY HAD CUT ABOUT 200 ACRES. AND NOW SOME HOMETOWN TEMPS. WHEN WE COME BACK, WE'LL ASK OUR TEAM OF ANALYSTS TO GET US PREPARED  FOR ANOTHER WEEK OF MARKET ACTION. PLUS.."

TEASE
STICK AROUND FOLKS COMING UP WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT HOW THE  INTERIOR OF THE CAB AFFECTS USED TRACTOR VALUES." PLUS MEET SOME 4-H'ERS WHO ARE AIMING HIGH IN THIS YEARS SHOOTING  CHALLENGE. DETAILS WHEN WE HEAD IN THE COUNTRY TO LOUISIANA., FAST PACE WITH DESIGN-MATCHED TRANSMISSIONS FOR INTUITIVE  STEERING...PERFECT CUT FOR A CARPET-LIKE FINISH...AND SWEET RIDE WITH A  COMFORT-FOCUSED SEAT.  GRASSHOPPER MOWERS ARE COMMITTED TO THE  CUT.

AGRIBUSINESS
TYNE MORGAN FILLING IN FOR ME AT THE AGRIBUSINESS DESK THIS WEEK AND  SHE ASKS OUR TEAM OF ANALYSTS ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MARKETS  AFTER LAST WEEK'S WILD RIDE. HERE NOW THE AGRIBUSINESS DESK WITH JOE VACLAVIK AND CRAIG VAN DYKE  ARE ALRIGHT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE MARKETS LAST WEEK A MINUTE JUST LOOK  AT THE CATTLE MARKET ALONE WIDE SWINGS IN THIS CATTLE MARKET WHY DID  WE SEE SO MUCH VOLATILITY LAST WEEK WE'VE SEEN A LOT OF VOLATILITY IN  THE CASH MARKET I MEAN THIS WEEK ALONE WE'VE SEEN CASH CATTLE JUMP  TEN BUCKS A HUNDRED WEIGHT WE'RE STARTING TO SEE THE SPREADS GET  EXTREMELY WIDE AND A LOT OF THE CONVERSATION HAS BEEN IN THIS MARKET  HAS BEEN IT 'S SUCH A DEEP DISCOUNT TO CASH THAT YOU KNOW HOW CAN  SELLARS BE THAT AGGRESSIVE KEEPING KEEPING THE FEATURES THAT FAR  AWAY FROM THE CASH IN AND  I'D ARGUE THERE 'S ABSOLUTELY A POINT THERE  THAT THAT IT 'S HARD TO BE AN AGGRESSIVE SELLOFF BUT WE CAN'T HAVE CASH  MARKETS THAT MOVE TEN BUCKS IN A WEEK WHY KEEP THE FUTURES MOVED  FIVE SIX SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN BUCKS AND WE CAN ADD A RIGHT AND WE'VE SEEN  THAT THIS WEEK ON THE TECHNICALS AS WELL. YOU KNOW WORK ON THURSDAY WE SAW A KEY REVERSAL IN THE MAY FEEDER CONTRACT. WE SAW ISLAND TOP  IN THE JUNE FAT CATTLE CONTRACTS SELL TECHNICALS AND FUNDAMENTALS  HERE AND KEEP THINGS ALL MOVE FORWARD. YOU'VE GOT SOME INTERESTING  IMPLICATIONS FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE MARKET FOR THE FUNDS.  THIS HAS BEEN EASY MONEY AND I'M NOT GOING TO SAY THERE'S EVER EASY MONEY MARKETS. BUT THE WAY THAT THEY'VE BEEN ABLE THE HOLD THIS LONG  POSITION RIGHT AND THEN ROLL INTO THE NEXT MONTH AT A HUGE DISCOUNT  AND CONTINUE TO PLAY THIS GAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR THE LAST FEW  MONTHS HAS REALLY BEEN A PROFITABLE DEAL AND YOU GOT THE PRODUCER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS THING GOES BACKWARD ON HER HEAD IS BY ITS  OWN CASH CATTLE IN THE ONE FORTIES. SO THERE 'S THERE 'S A LOT OF  INTERESTING THINGS THAT HAPPEN WHEN YOU GET IN THESE WEIRD SPREADS  IN IN THESE BIG BASES IT IS A LOT OF IMPLICATIONS THAT ARE NOT NORMAL BY  ANY STRETCH BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THESE MARKETS ARE THERE SIGNS THAT  IT WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE HIGHER HEADING INTO JUNE NO NOT TO ME I MEAN  FROM A TECHNICAL STANDPOINT IT LOOKS LIKE IF WE HAVEN'T SEEN A BLOW OFF  TOP ALREADY WERE GETTING CLOSE BUT ANYTHING 'S POSSIBLE AND IN A  MARKET LIKE THIS IT'S A PARABOLIC MOOD IT SOMETHING HE 'S IN COMMODITIES  LIKE ONCE EVERY FIVE OR TEN YEARS REALLY UNPRECEDENTED AND TOTALLY  AGREE WITH JOE IN THAT RESPECT AS FAR AS THE CHARTS LIKE THIS WE DID A  MEAN THAT 'S A TEXTBOOK BLOW OFF TOP BUT IN THE SAME POINT YOU'RE  LOOKING AT THE RECORD BASIS HERE IN THE CASH TO FUTURES CONTRACTS SO  YOU KNOW IT 'S IT 'S GONNA BE A BATTLE OF CASH FLOWS IN WITH THE SPREADS THE WAY JOE MENTIONED THAT THE FUNDS CAN CONTINUE TO ROLL THAT AND  THEY HAVE STARTED AS WE'VE SEEN STARTING ROLE INTO THE NEXT CONTRACT  ALRIGHT THANK YOU BOTH STAY WITH US WE'LL BE BACK WITH MORE AGDAY IN  JUST A MOMENT.  GET THE ROOTS YOUR CROPS NEED, BY GETTING RADIATE FIRST.  VISIT LOVELAND PRODUCTS.COM SLASH RADIATE.  SEE YOUR CPS DEALER TODAY.

WEATHER
WHAT A WET WEEK FOR MANY PARTS OF THE MIDWEST AND THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AS YOU CAN SEE HERE. TWO POCKETS OF EIGHT TO TEN INCHES OF RAIN FELL ONE OF THEM IN THE SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF LOUISIANA INCLUDING SOME OF THE OTHER GULF COAST REGIONS THERE.BUT THE MAIN ONE WAS RIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY IN THIS STARTED IN PARTS OF NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA AND INTO SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS WITH THE SOME AREAS IN THE PURPLE HERE FILLING UP AS EIGHT INCHES PLUS I KNOW THERE WERE SOME TEN TO TWELVE INCH READINGS IN SOME OF THOSE AREAS OF NORTHERN ARKANSAS BUT ESPPECIALLY SOUTHERN MISSOURI SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND IN THAT TAPERED OFF A LITTLE BIT AS IT MOVED INTO SOUTHERN INDIANA. BUT HUGE AMOUNTS OF RAIN THERE AND WE'RE NOT TOTALLY DONE WITH THE RAIN ALTHOUGH I DON'T SEE THIS WEEK BE NEARLY AS WET AS THE LAST ONE WE'RE GOING TO START WITH SOME DECENT RAINS IN THE FAR NORTHEAST EASTERN CANADA WITH AT THE BIT THE BIG CUTOFF LOW THERE IN THE NORTHEAST. WE ALSO HAVE A CAR OFF A LOW THERE SELLING CALIFORNIA SOUTHWESTERN ARIZONA SO LET 'S PUT THE JET STREAM IN THE MOTION NOT A LOT OF MOVEMENT THERE AS YOU CAN SEE SO IT WILL CONTINUE TO BE FAIRLY WET ALTHOUGH IT 'S NORMALLY WET IN MANY PARTS OF THE UH THE OUTER BANKS AND INTO THE NORTHEAST WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL BE A VERY SLOW MOVER AS WELL. AS WE HEAD THROUGH THURSDAY AND FRIDAY THEN THEY CAN EMERGE A LITTLE BIT SO IT STAYS CHILLY IT 'S GOING TO BE WET AT TIMES ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE COUNTRY'S SOUTHEASTERN SECTIONS AND THEN WE HAVE ANOTHER CUT OFF I CAN COME IN AND OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST. SO A VERY STRANGE WEATHER PATTERN FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. AS WE HEAD INTO NEXT WEEKEND AND WELL YOU CAN STILL SEE A HUGE TROUGH IN THE EAST BIG RIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY. THIS WOULD REALLY DRY THINGS OUT FOR MUCH OF THE CORN BELT WILL WARM THINGS UP AS WELL BUT THAT COULD BE FAIRLY WET IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. SO LET 'S GO FOR OTHER TEMPS THIS WEEK I'M GOING BELOW NORMAL FOR A MUCH OF SOUTHEASTERN CANADA THE GREAT LAKES BACK IN THE MISSOURI AND ARKANSAS AND THROUGHOUT EVERYWHERE EAST OF THERE TO THE MID ATLANTIC INTO THE NORTHEAST. ABOVE NORMAL AND FOR THE NORTHWESTERN PLAINS FROM NORTH DAKOTA DOWN IN THE NORTHWESTERN KANSAS AND THE NORTHEAST FOR ROCKIES AND BELOW NORMAL FOR MUCH OF THE WEST COAST ESPECIALLY THE SOUTHWESTERN SECTIONS OF THE COUNTRY. AS FAR AS PRECIPITATION THIS WEEK I'M GOING BELOW NORMAL FOR THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND INTO THE GREAT LAKES. THAT'LL BE A CHANGE FOR THE GREAT LAKES AREA BUT ABOVE NORMAL WITH THAT SLOW MOVING SYSTEM COMING OUT OF THE FOUR CORNER REGION AND IN SPREADING SLOWLY TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST. SO THIS COULD BE A LITTLE BIT OF GOOD NEWS FOR SOME OF THE NORTHERN SECTIONS OF STILL HAVE SOME DROUGHT CONDITIONS BUT STILL IT 'S BELOW NORMAL TO ME FOR FLORIDA MUCH OF SOUTHEASTERN TEXAS AS YOU CAN SEE. THIRTY DAY OUTLOOK FOR TEMPS I'M GOING BELOW NORMAL FOR MOST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY TOWARD THE NORTHEAST ABOVE NORMAL FOR FLORIDA AND ALSO ABOVE NORMAL UP AND DOWN THE SPINE OF THE ROCKIES. AS FAR AS A THIRTY DAY OUTLOOK FOR PRECIPITATION ABOVE NORMAL IN CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE ROCKIES AND THEN FOR LOUISIANA GEORGIA ON TOWARD THE NORTH EAST ONLY BELOW NORMAL A RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND AROUND THE TEXAS AREA. THAT 'S A LOOK ACROSS THE COUNTRY. NOW LET 'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME LOCAL FORECASTS. FIRST OF ALL FOR KINGSMAN ARIZONA CLOUDY AND COOL A THUNDERSTORM IN SPOTS. HIGH OF 67. JAMESTOWN. NORTH DAKOTA MOSTLY CLOUDY AND WARM SPOT IN SHOWER. I HAVE SEVENTY FIVE. AND HUNTSVILLE. ALABAMA MOSTLY SUNNY ALL OF A SHOWER IN A FEW SPOTS. HIGH ROUND SEVENTY FOUR.

IN THE COUNTRY
GROWING CORN AND SOYBEANS IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST YOUR YIELD.  IT'S WHAT YOU WERE MEANT  TO DO.  VISIT ACRES OF POSSIBILITY.COM TO DISCOVER THE POTENTIAL OF MYCOGEN SEEDS. SHOOTING SPORTS IS A POPULAL PROGRAM IN 4-H IN MANY STATES, WITH A TRIP  TO NATIONALS ON THE LINE, MORE THAN 800 LOUISIANA YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN  THE STATE SHOOTING SPORTS COMPETITION. LSU AGCENTER'S CRAIG  GAUTREAUX HAS THE STORY. WHETHER IT WAS RIFLES, BB GUNS OR ARROWS, YOUTH FROM ACROSS THE  STATE WERE AIMING FOR A SPOT IN THE 4-H NATIONAL SHOOTING SPORTS  COMPETITION HELD LATER THIS SUMMER. THE EVENT SHOWED HOW POPULAR  SHOOTING SPORTS IS WITH 4-H YOUTH AND HOW IT HELPS FULFILL SOME OF THE  GOALS OF THE ORGANIZATION.  SILAS CECIL: IT'S JUST LIKE LIVESTOCK OR ANY  OTHER 4-H PROJECT. IT'S THE VEHICLE THAT FOSTERS MASTERY SKILLS, INDEPENDENCE AND BELONGING. WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO COME OUT HEREAND NOT HAVE FUN? NARRATOR: 4-H'ERS COMPETED IN SIX MAIN AREAS,  INCLUDING AIR-POWERED FIREARMS, SHOTGUNS, RIFLES AND ARCHERY. RAINA VALDEZ HAS COMPETED IN THE BB GUN DIVISION FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS  AND ENJOYS THE COMPETITIVE PART OF THE PROGRAM.  RAINA VALDEZ: I  WANTED TO DO ARCHERY, AND I HEARD THAT THEY HAD BB SHOOTING AND THAT  WAS SOMETHING NEW, SO I DECIDED TO TRY IT. AND I GOT INVOLVED WITH IT, AND  I REALLY LIKED IT. PARENTS AND VOLUNTEERS ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SUCCESS  OF THE PROGRAM. PARENTS PROVIDE THE MORAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR  THEIR CHILDREN, AND VOLUNTEERS SERVE AS OFFICIALS AND HELP RUN THE  COMPETITION. LEAH VALDEZ SAYS HER DAUGHTER WORKS HARD TO IMPROVE.  LEAH VALDEZ: SHE ACTUALLY GOES TO PRACTICE WITH HER TEAM, SO I AM  ALWAYS ENCOURAGING HER TO PRACTICE, BUT SHE WANTS TO PRACTICE  BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO GET BETTER. WHEN SHE IS NOT SATISFIED WITH HER  SCORE, SHE PRACTICES A LITTLE BIT MORE TO GET BETTER. SOME OF THE KEY LIFE SKILLS INSTILLED IN 4-H ARE CITIZENSHIP AND LEADERSHIP, AND THE 4-H  SHOOTING SPORTS PROGRAM EMPHASIZES BOTH. CALVIN DOMANGUE: I  LEARNED A LOT OF LEADERSHIP THROUGH THIS. IT TAUGHT ME HOW TO HELP  OTHERS AND KEEP UP WITH RESPONSIBILITIES.  THE TOP FOUR FINISHERS IN  EACH CATEGORY ARE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN THE NATIONAL COMPETITION.  WITH THE LSU AGCENTER, THIS IS CRAIG GAUTREAUX REPORTING. THE FINALS WILL BE HELD THE LAST WEEKEND IN JUNE IN GRAND ISLAND,  NEBRASKA.
